This weekend I was at one of my clients’ house with Jon installing artwork. Jon is always my favorite go-to handyman for client projects. We get to hang out together, he understands what I want before I even say it and he is a total professional that clients end up falling in love with. He always goes the extra mile with the little details to make all of the finishing pieces come together. Artwork installation is usually one of the last steps in my projects. It’s always nice to see that the last 10 percent come together and finish up a space. Artwork can also be one of the hardest pieces to source for a client. You want to get a piece that fits the budget, is different and original looking for the clients’ home and something that means something to them. It needs to be a piece that the client sees and really resonates with. Many times the artwork in a client’s home is a mix of original pieces from an artist that we love and spent a good chunk of the budget on. Other times I need to get creative with my sourcing in order to find an amazing statement artwork piece on a budget. I love to share when I find a great source and my latest find for statement artwork that is less than $10 is Grace Digital Art Co!
I sourced their French Riveria Beach Umbrella Print for a client’s bathroom and it really is perfection. It reflects the client’s love of summer and stripes and overall makes them happy when they look at it. That’s a win, win in my book. The print was only $8.18 and we were able to print it to a 32″ x 32″. The photo is rectangular, but we used Framebridge and we were able to square off the image to work with the size we wanted.
We were even able to put a color on the inside of the mat to give it even more of a high-end look. We went with navy blue. It’s something that you could easily tackle at home with a store-bought mat and a marker!
Yes, getting something professional framed will add to the cost of the artwork, but for me it’s worth the extra cost to really elevate your piece. If it’s not in the budget then I recommend searching thrift stores for frames to reuse or going to a craft store like Michaels or ACMoore and taking advantage of their coupons. For printing online I recommend using MPIX and Nations Photo Lab.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
