STOOPING NYC

If you have been reading this blog for some time then you know that I am not shy about picking up a piece of furniture from someone’s trash pile! I always go in the cloak of darkness and I’m completely in a panic that I’m going to get caught even though it’s totally something you can do. If it’s going out in the trash and totally fair game. Jon is always the calm one and I’m always the embarrassed one, but not so embarrassed that I would let a good piece go. A couple of weeks ago I found an Instagram account called Stooping NYC! On Stooping NYC they share amazing furniture finds that are on the curb in NYC and the surrounding area like Brooklyn. You can DM them a pic and location if you see something good on the curb and they will post it for you to be able to head over and snag the find! A lot of times the people that end up getting the item send in photos of them with the saved item in their home.

Here is one of my favorite trash finds! One of our neighbors had it out for garbage and I had to save it. It was in perfect condition. I really liked the wood tones it had so, we left it as is. Just gave it a good cleaning and set it up!

This sofa got my heart pitter-pattering! I was toying with driving into Brooklyn to snag it, but I figured it would be gone by the time I got there. Ah the one that got away!

Do you have anything like Stooping NYC in your city? I think regardless of where you live it’s super fun to look at it and see what is out there! It’s so crazy to see how many things hit the curb from store display furniture, restaurants, etc. Lots of good stuff out there and I’m so happy this site lets others find them and give them a new home!

    I live in the LA area and that’s not done here; at least in my area. I would so snatch that last sofa (the curved one)!!!! It is my dream shape.

    There are many towns in Upstate NY, where I live that have spring and or fall clean ups. The furniture and goodies people put out at the curb are incredible. I’ve picked up quite a few nice things that I feel I am saving from the landfill. I usually drive around the block once to get up my nerve and plan how fast I can jump out of
    my car! If I go at night I bring a flash light
    and turn off my cars interior lights. I’m not sure whether my heart is pounding because of my embarrassment or my great find!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
