You know it was a good Monday when you are doing your weekend recap on Tuesday. How is the return to school treating everyone? We opted to do the remote learning program in our district for the first month to see how in person school goes. If the protocols work and we don’t get any covid cases then they will be going in. We have our fingers and toes that everything goes smoothly. While it has been great to have the kids at home and they actually enjoy remote learning it’s intense for all of us.They need to get out of the house and be with other kids and learn the full curriculum. Our remote program doesn’t offer all of the subject areas and I’m scared they are going to fall behind. For awhile I tried housing all of my weekend activities on instagram only, but I have gotten messages that many people just read the blog and they are missing the content here. I’m actually missing it too because it’s become a family journal of sorts. So, here we are back at it even though it’s a day late!
Here is what we were up to this weekend. I spent Saturday in the city with my sisters. My youngest sister was having a procedure done and I got play nurse! I went into the city early and took her to the appointment and then hung around till the evening. While she was resting I did her laundry and cleaned up her apartment. I must say I love doing laundry in her apartment building. The laundry room is in the basement and it’s so easy. I went down and put in 3 loads at the same time and the machines have a timer! So, I was able to set a timer on my phone and then went down to swap it to multiple dryers and get a new timer! I was done so fast! Now I get why some homes have multiple washing machines and dryers. It’s a deal changer!
Here is a peek into her bedroom. The awesome accent wall is from LO HOME by Lauren Haskell Designs. Lauren is literally the sweetest soul and she designs and makes the most stunning ginger jars that I can get enough of! She has striped versions, brush stroke versions, monogram versions! Along with the ginger jars and wallpaper there is also furniture and so much more for the home!!!! This paper is part of a collaboration with artist Taelor Fisher and it’s a crowd favorite! I’m also obsessed with their new pattern called Perfect Stripe it is quite honestly perfect and I love all of the colorways especially the Charleston one, but they can custom make it in any color!!!!
Here is a little peek at her vintage bar cart which was an amazing score from Facebook marketplace! It was $40 and had been in the family for decades. I was happy to give it a new home! The When in doubt dance it out print is from FY! FY! is one of my go to sources for fun artwork that arrives framed at an affordable price point. I have ordered a ton from them and I’m always happy!
We all love elephants in this family and this little cutie is one of my favorites! It was a Home Goods find that quickly made it’s way into my cart when I walked into the store. Isn’t this rug amazing too!!!! It’s one of favorites!!!!
If you follow along on Instagram then you know I was thrifting last week and I found so many cute items like this elephant planter. It had a little chip, but it was only $2.99 so it made it’s way home with me. I wasn’t sure what to do with it and when I saw her sink area with brushes surrounding it I realized I had the perfect home for them!
My last little sneak peek is her kitchen area! Her kitchen is my favorite part of her apartment due to her amazing diagonal stripe cement tile Last week I got the opportunity to learn about Urban Garden Prints. Urban Garden Prints is an art company owned by sisters. Many of the pieces are original pressed flowers they had produced as artwork that can be purchased in a variety of colors and sizes. They also have vintage prints that they have colored in a bright array of colors. I feel in love with their vintage flowers in the reed prints and I was even able to have them custom sized to fit frames I already had purchased. They are currently running a 20% off sale of orders of $95 and more. Use code WOWART if you are looking for some artwork. I can’t wait to get them installed!!!!
On Sunday I had a day of rest! I was exhausted from my day in the city so, I required a pancake breakfast!!!! What team are you for pancakes? Jon grew up having them like silver dollars where they are pretty uniform all around and have no crispiness in the edges. I grew up having them super crispy on the edges. So in our house Jon always calls mine Colombian pancakes, but I’m pretty sure other people enjoy their pancakes my way. Hudson is on board with me and our Colombian pancakes, but Jon and Asher like their American pancakes.
I wanted to relax the rest of the day, but instead I decided we needed to do some finishing touches on my parents kitchen. A bunch of the finishing touches had arrived during the week and I was ready to get them set up! I got these sweet brass and white pendant lights that totally transformed the window area and they were a steal at $33 each! We are waiting on new cabinet doors for the sink cabinet. It was the only cabinet that was in bad shape and needed to be replaced. Of course we couldn’t find a base with the doors we originally had and the old doors were too small. So, we had to go with custom. They are in production and now we wait.
The ceiling fan also got a new look! This old brown fan was taken away and a new beauty from Hunter Fan. I thought it was going to be a nightmare to swap but it was very easy! I will be sharing the how to tomorrow on Instagram stories!
I also had Jon install these new wood floating shelves. They were a steal. Only $54 plus free shipping for two floating shelves that are 36″ long and 10″ deep. It was the best price I had seen! Super easy to install as well. I added a bunch of thrifting treasures to them.
Overall a great weekend where lots was accomplished. Now excuse me while I warm up my cup of coffee for the 3rd time and tackle 1st grade math with Asher.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
