Week 3 of the One Room Challenge is here! If you want to start from the beginning you can go here I’m still in a go with the flow mode as I patiently wait for items to arrive. In this amazon prime sort of world, it’s hard when you have to wait more than a couple of days for something to arrive. Things are moving along for the powder room, but I’m still missing the main components in the main bathroom!!! Please let the shipping gods be in my favor. One hiccup we had to deal with this week was a little tile switch up. Originally I wanted to go a little retro on the floor and use a combo of blue and white penny tiles or hexagon tiles to make a polka dot sort of pattern. Sadly the penny tiles in white and blue and the hexagon tile in white had 6-8 week lead times. Originally I thought it wouldn’t be an issue to just go all blue with the hexagon tiles, but the more I looked at it the more I started to feel like that it might be a bit too much color. I know, can you believe it. Me, thinking it’s too much color. I wanted the space to still look glam and chic and something that I loved for years to come.
I’m lucky enough to be working with The Tile Shop on this ORC, which has been amazing. So, I headed to my local The Tile Shop to figure out a solution. I’m lucky enough to have a location nearby which is super helpful when you have a crazy time crunch. I met with the store manager Liz Libretti from the Westbury, NY location who walked me through all of my options and I was able to make my final tile picks! They carry everything you could need for a tiling project. I was able to pick up the tile, trim for the shower alcove border, grout, spacers, sponges, a niche cut out for the shower area, and even the marble threshold for the doorway! They literally have it all!!!!!
So, here is what we originally started out with: Even looking at it now I still really like it, but I just started about 10 years from now Camila. She would probably want something a bit more neutral as one of the tile options in case she wanted to do a wallpaper swap. Now to swap the shower tile or floor tile?
When I did a walk-thru of the store I realized a didn’t want to do a white or marble in the shower area. It just seemed too neutral for me. The color options in The Tile Shops’ Color Market collection were still making my heart pitter-patter and I knew it would make the perfect splash in the shower area!
I wanted something with a bit of glam for the floor area. I was drawn to Ava with Victoria marble mosaic tile and I liked the mix of the shapes. It looked classic, but not boring at all. It still made a statement.
I also really liked the Victoria Hex Mosaic tile, but I have used something like this for a couple of clients in some variation be it marble or cement. I do love it, I just felt that at the end of the day I should do something different. I went with the top option!
Option 2: When I went into The Tile Shop I was immediately drawn to this marble mosaic tile. I loved that it was a bit different from what I have typically seen yet it was still classic looking and could go with whatever wallpaper I like in the future. I still couldn’t get over my love for their Color Market Lima De Persia tiles. It required a swap for the shower curtain fabric and I loved it even more.
Option 3: I was stuck on option 3 for a while. I really loved the orange fabric I found for the curtain panel and did enjoy how nicely it played with the Color Market Wonderland tile, but it started to feel too safe.
What’s your favorite option? I went with….OPTION 2!!!! The tile has already been ordered and I should be arriving any day now!!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
