One of my favorite parts of designing spaces for clients is putting together fabric schemes. A fabric scheme typically consists of an array of fabrics in a variety of styles that all go together and tell a story. It can be a mix of cotton, linen, velvet, etc and the patterns and colors will also vary in hue and size. It is where you can start to set the tone for a space. Sometimes though fabrics don’t cut it and the client isn’t feeling it any of them. So, if I need to go elsewhere for a jumping-off point that typically means heading to rugs! Your flooring lays the literal groundwork for the design of your room. It can totally set the tone for a room. Are you leaning traditional, modern, cottage, coastal, or somewhere in between. I can look at rugs for days and days and the rugs that have been constantly on my mind for the last couple of years are modern oushak rugs. What are modern oushak rugs? An Oushak rug is a rug of Turisk origins from the Usak, Turkey that use a particular style of designs. They tend to have ornate patterns on them that are heavily influenced by Persian designs. End of the story, they are beautiful, very well made and I’m dying to get my hands on one of them. The more modern oushak rugs tend to come in a rainbow selection of pastel colors and the bedroom in our new house is screaming for one! Now the big questions! Where do you buy modern oushak rugs? There are some reproductions available out there, but I haven’t seen anything amazing so the sources below are just for true and authentic oushak rugs!
The first vendor that made me fall in love with them is, LOOM & CO! They have the most jaw-dropping collection of rugs. The colors are all unbelievable! They have the prettiest shades of all of the colors and they come together beautifully in their patterns. They have a good amount of rugs that are ready to ship, then a selection of quick ship rugs that ship in 30 days and then the option to go fully made to order and get whatever size or colorway that you like! Their rugs are 100% wool and handknotted with hand-dyed wool. They are a little bit of heaven on earth and I’m hoping to get one of for the main bedroom in our new home.
Next up is, Lindsey Meyer . Lindsey is an artist that I follow on instagram and when she noticed that many of her clients were having a hard time finding rugs that coordinated with her pieces she got to work on her own rug collection. The collection she designed is beautiful and pairs amazingly well with her artwork. A win, win for you if you need both.
There is also, CER Collection that has a totally custom option where you can work with one of their designers to get the perfect look for your space! They also have an amazing mix of rugs that are ready to ship or available in 10 weeks.
Joey Sabb is very well known on Instagram. I was constantly seeing so many of my designer pals tagging him on their rugs that I had to follow. He has different trunk shows around the South, but anyone can contact him via Instagram and get a rug. He is said to beat all prices!
KES COLLECTION is another Instagram-only shop where shop owner Morgan features countless beautiful modern oushak rugs!
South House Interiors is a new to me Instagram-only shop and while their rugs are not as bright as my heart desires they still have a beautiful mix and affordable prices.
Milagro Collective has a beautiful pastel-colored mix of rugs which are available in ready-to-ship, made to order, or custom.
Trout House Rugs has a large mix of rugs including the oushak pattern. They are brave when it comes to colors and have some of the most brightly colored ones I have ever seen!
Etsy has a good amount of rug shops, but very few have the pretty pastel-colored oushak rugs. I did manage to find a couple that had some dreamy pieces.
There are so many beautiful options out there whether it’s ready to buy, vintage or custom. Since rugs aren’t as big of a commitment as doing drapery on all your windows I find that clients are a bit more open to going bold and colorful on their rugs and then that either warms them up to the idea of more color and pattern on the drapery or helps them decide to make the rug the focal point and go neutral with their drapery. Each direction is great and it’s a matter of what works best for you and your home.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
THANK YOU! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for.
