When I’m designing a space for myself or a client I love to add a mix of design styles when it comes to the furnishings. There is no easier way to have a space look personalized and unique than by breaking up the furniture in a room. You don’t want everything to look like it came from a set. It can be harder to mix up wood tones, but it’s pretty effortless to mix in some natural texture furniture like cane, rattan, and wicker with wood furniture. I rounded up some of my favorite pieces that look pretty spectacular as is, but if you love a little color like this girl then give it a fun paint job! Just because furniture looks one way when you get it doesn’t mean it needs to stay that way. I would leave the texture on these pieces as is, but the framework of them all can easily be painted to add color and give some contrast.
No. 1: Marte Storage Cabinet: This piece is perfect if you need additional storage for clothing on hangers. I like it as is, but this piece can easily have its frame painted. It would look so fun in a pop of bold pink.
No. 2: Elise Cane Counter Stool: Love, love, the look of these counter stools! Aren’t they fab! Add them to any kitchen island or breakfast bane! The caned back will add texture to your kitchen and help break up all of the cabinetry.
No. 3: Elise Bookcase: Light and airy furniture is always needed in space. I love the lines on this rattan bookcase. It would be so pretty in a nursery, kids’ or teens’ room.
No. 4: Marisol Rattan Desk: How chic is this desk! I love how vertical it is! If you put it in a neutral room it can be California Modern Farmhouse, if you add some more textures to the room it can have a coastal feel, if you add it into a colorful space it can have a boho vibe. So many possibilities with it. It’s also available as a coffee table.
No. 5: Just like the desk above this rattan bed can work in a variety of design styles. It’s truly a stunner that is giving me Studio McGee vibes!
No. 6: Willow Rattan Lamp: If you don’t have enough space to add a natural texture furniture piece then you can add the look with a lamp instead. I’m loving the dome lampshade and texture on the stand. It looks a little Golden Girls to me and I love it.
No. 7: Marte Vanity: Mid-century modern meets caning with this vanity. The mirror top comes down and you can use the top as a console table.
No. 8: Meredith Desk: Since this piece doesn’t have storage I think I would use it as a console of sorts and place two upholstered benches or ottomans underneath. Texture play at its finest.
No. 9: Angelo Rattan Table Lamp: The sweetest little lamp for under $100. I think they look so fab! Sneak one onto a bookcase or built it for an unexpected look.
No. 10: Pierce Wicker Side Table: This little wicker side table can be moved all throughout your house. The perfect perch for a coffee or your favorite books.
No. 11: Delancy Storage Cabinet: This is one of the pieces that I would totally paint the frame on it. I would probably even swap out the hardware for something fun too! Use it by your front door or in a kids’ room for toy storage!
No. 12: Rattan Daybed: Does this not look like the perfect spot to lounge around with a good book! Have some fun and add more texture with a bunch of pillows!
No. 13: Mabelle Dresser: I love this piece! It looks so high-end and chic!
So, what do you think? Are you ready to add some natural texture furniture to your space!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
