Ladies and maybe some Gents I’m calling out for some help. I’m having every decorator’s constant dilemma, that being completely at a standstill over what to do in my own home. The final room in my house to be decorated is the dining room. It took me months to find the perfect dining room set. I finally found a table and set of chairs that I liked and then it came in damaged and looking a bit pink instead of white. After numerous fights with the store it all went back and I got a full refund. That same weekend I was searching online and decided to check at Pottery Barn, West Elm , Crate and Barrel. I like everyone else thinks their catalogs are great, but I never wanted anything from them in my house, because I felt it didn’t exude any character and I didn’t want to have set that would be in many other homes as well. I happened to check out PB’s clearance section and found a modern take on a Parson style table and an updated version of a Chippendale chair. It came in a wonderful aged teak type color (which I figured wouldn’t be popular with most) and at a fabulous price so I ordered it along with the server and then went to some local thrift stores in search of a China Cabinet piece. I found an amazing piece at a store near by and when I went to pay the lovely lady at the desk reduced it even more and I ended up paying $126 for the China Cabinet and then only $50 for delivery. What a steal. Everything was delivered rather quickly. I got my new selection in 2 weeks as oppose to the 4 plus months it took to get my original set in.
The China Cabinet is going to be painted white and that is a project for an upcoming weekend. Hopefully I can get a jump start on it this weekend. I originally painted the dining room a sidewalk gray and while I like the color it is looking a bit blue to me lately and I’m not thrilled with that. The color scheme that I was going for in this room was a yellow/gray combo, but I’m open to other color combos. I would ideally love a wallpaper in this room, but I have yet to find anything that has me jumping for joy.
I did find a fabric in which I enjoyed the color combo:
But this is where my inspiration ends. I’m at a stand still. I want it done fast, but I don’t want it done wrong so I’m waiting till something inspires me to get this room finished. So here is where I beg you all for help. Any ideas? Favorite wallpaper? Must have lighting fixture? Perfect wall color?
Help a sister out! Please! Tis the season.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
ooohhhh this is an exciting post… my ears perk up whenever there's a decorating dilemma… I'll think on it & get back to you. looks like you're headed in a really beautiful & unique direction… the yellow & gray is so different! one question- what rooms/ color schemes is it situated next to?
Lauren,
It is next to the chocolate brown living room. The living room is mostly chocolate brown with white then some accents of blue and pops of orange.
I figured making the walls gray would be a good neutral.
The kitchen is also near by and it mostly white, stainless steel and milk glass jade green wall color, but there is a door that closes off the kitchen from the dining room.
we need pics girl!! Let us see the space and the rooms next to it
The dining room has become a junk room, but I will take pics tonight of the space and post.
Some pictures of the room and your new furniture would be great! I love the idea of grey wall and the fabric you chose is fabulous. I'd love to use it in a project sometime. I like the colors you're going with.
You know Circa has some fabulous lighting options, but I am just a little partial to them. 🙂 What finish would you like? If you like the Reed Chandelier, I can get you a great price.

Ugh, gray is so hard. 95% of the time I find it turns blue or blue-ish. I will be thinking and get back to you. Can’t wait to see the pics! What is one the floor?
Sorry I haven’t posted pics yet. It was a very busy weekend.
It doesn’t have to be gray, but that is the color it is now. Totally looking blue to me.
The floor is hardwood floors. Not sure if I want an area rug or not. It’s not the biggest room.
Paloma I do look the lighting fixture. I found myself ohh and ahhing all over their site.
Just came across your blog–I love it! I’m currently working on a yellow and grey color scheme for our master bedroom and I’d love to know where you found that fabric. It is fantastic.
