about me, thrift store

Highs & Lows of the week

  1. Vanessa says:

Love all of your finds – makes me want to hit the thrift stores this weekend. Sorry about your trip.

  2. Dweller-Carly says:

I think spray painting the mirror white would look great! Congrats on some good finds. 🙂

  3. Karen@StrictlySimpleStyle says:

Eddie Ross spray painted a similar inexpensive mirror for his home and it looks amazing.

  4. Jake says:

You are way lucky to have scored that mirror for the price you did. They are really en-vogue right now. I tried to bring myself to buy one at an estate last weekend for $60. Couldn't do it.

  5. Jake says:

P.S. Jake is actually Michelle…Three Men and a Lady.

  6. Blueprint Bliss says:

Camila- great finds! Sorry about your flight being cancelled… hope your weekend is a good one.

  7. Averill says:

I'm so sorry to hear your flight got cancelled — damn this bloody snow!!!

But your thrift finds ARE fantastic.

  8. MyLittleHappyPlace says:

To quote Caddyshack, "DOUBLE Turds" on the cancellation of your trip – that sounded like a blast. 🙁

On the other hand, you ROCKED that thrift store – I bet they didn't have a clue!

Reschedule that trip – I wanna live vicariously!

  9. Adrianna says:

Love the curtains! All those bright fun colors. And the mirror, I've seen some in a shamrock green room, they looked fab. Whoa on the snow! Good grief, I'm tired of the cold already.

  10. Anchored says:

Love the Mirror! dont spray paint it! Its beautiful that color!

  11. Scientific Housewife says:

Sorry to hear that your flight was cancelled! You got away with some nice stuff!

  12. Living It At Home says:

Love, love your finds! You are very good at this! Sorry to hear of your trip. Can't wait for spring myself.

  13. Abbie says:

I wish I lived in a city, so I could find better thrifted items! These are amazing… that mirror was a steal!! I can't wait to see the chairs in kelly green. Bummer about your trip!

  14. Nikki says:

Bummer! I only like snow when I have no place to go.

Love your finds. Especially the bamboo chairs. I just picked up some off craigslist, I wanted to paint them a color, but I think I have to stick with white because the space is so small. Maybe I'll do my table a color.

  15. Susie @ Maddie's Nest says:

Great finds. Love the bamboo chairs! Sorry you are stuck. Amtrak is still running if you change your mind.

  16. Magchunk says:

Sorry about your trip! What a bummer.

However, I am massively jealous of your thrifting trip! Can't believe the low prices!

  17. Christina says:

I've got a little mirror almost identical to the one you found… I spray painted it and LOVE it! Now if only I could convince my husband that it truly is fabulous…

  18. Christina says:

err–that last comment was me too, but I had signed in under the wrong account. At any rate, I included a link to your page in my blog post today :o)

  19. Flavia @ Estilo Home says:

Awesome finds, but that is such a bummer about your flight! I seriously hate snow sometimes. If you reschedule, let me know if you want to meet, I'm in DC/VA too 🙂

  20. Lovely Little Nest says:

Thanks for your rug review on my post!

So sorry to hear you couldn't go on your trip! But those are some great thrift store finds.

Question: How do you deal with pillows that come from the thrift store? Do you pop them in the wash? Spot clean them? I'm a bit of a germaphobe, so it creeps me out to buy something that someone with lice could have slept on :/

  21. my favorite and my best says:

delta LOVES to cancel flights. fuckers! sorry about that…but those chairs…and kelly green no less!!!!

    lucky 3 roomies!

  22. Ashley says:

I love that mirror! For $6.99, it seems like you stole it from the thrift store. I would love a pair of them for over the nightstands in my bedroom…

    (Also, those are great curtains.)

  23. Christen says:

Oh I'm so sorry your flight was canceled 🙁 Are you still going to be able to make it somehow?

And that pillow is crazy gorgeous! Love it!

  24. Melissa says:

Sorry to hear about the lamps. They were too cute! I too love elephants…

Congrats on the great finds. Wow on the bamboo chairs!

  25. Bailey @ peppermintbliss says:

So sad!! That is the worst…Hoping this week will be better!

  26. Debbie@Vintage Scout says:

After your lamp loss, you deserve these wonderful treasures! That mirror for $6.99? WOW! And I love the barstool; I don't even think I would paint it. Bummer about your flight though.

  27. nkp says:

Aw, sorry your trip didn't work out. This has been the wackiest winter, even for those of us in the south! But your consolation prizes are nothing to laugh at. Those are some amazing deals you snapped up! Enjoy!

  28. Pigtown-Design says:

Bummer that you were not down for the weekend… it was actually a nice weekend here. I was at DeBois for about three hours on Saturday.

(But I was also in a very sad mood all weekend, so might not have been the best company.)

  29. Cristin says:

Great finds! Bummer about your trip.

BTW – I mentioned one of your posts in this one today:

ON THE BLOG

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.

Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.

On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]

The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]

new-farrow-and-ball-paint-color-picks-for-my-house

Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]

What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
