Some of my favorite childhood memories are playing “shop” with my sisters. We would empty out our closets, rearrange our clothes with prices tags and of course produce our own make-shift dressing room. Complete with a cash register and receipts we would spend endless hours taking turns being the shop owner.

 

Since then the seed of becoming a shop owner has entered my head. I gotta tell ya lately the urge is coming on even stronger. With so many available retail spaces these days I kinda want to jump at the chance, but right now it’s still in the dream stage.

 

One woman that took a leap of faith and started on her own dream is Maureen from the blog The Inglenook Decor’s Musings.

 

She recently left a very successful career in physical therapy to open up, The Inglenook Decor an online shop filled with goodies that are both modern and cottage style.

I just love, love going to Antique shops & Flea markets! Well, I’ve been waiting for this day to come as I missed their Fall show. Today, I’m going to the Roundtop Antiques Winter Market. Their shows are world-renowned {according to the Antiques Diva, this is the only Antiques market that can possibly rival that of Europe’s} with Spring & Fall being their biggest ones & just recently they added the Winter & Summer shows.

 

I am notorious for sleeping in {I work until the wee hours of the morning} but today I woke up at eight. No time to work out first, which is usually a toss between, a P90X DVD or a run in Town Lake. First up, pick up my posse for the day, the wonderful Jessica.

 

This is her sweet neighborhood in North Austin:

We had to say goodbye to her dog, Elvis Presley.

 

 

So, Roundtop is about 90 miles from Austin & a very small town off of Hwy 290 but during market days, this place is definitely a tourist attraction with buyers,designers, shop owners & other curious spectators coming from all over the US.

This is where the market is, at The Big Red Barn. Today, it’s muddy,wet and cold! Yet, I’m still beaming with delight in these pictures. 🙂

See all the goodies behind me? Oh, and that’s a butter churner. And here’s the gorgeous Jessica…who just loves dogs.

She fell in love with this cutie in a sweater!

 

We saw some impeccable blue china, assorted color glasses which I think is so Boho Chic, intricate salt cellars with silver spoons & spool displays which are now reproduced as mug holders.

 

I kept an eye on this 1920’s Knitting Mills sign {$595 price tag…yikes!} & these 1930’s store clocks.

 

 

We have to stop a while to get some eats. Not really a lot of choice.

I stayed away from these scrumptious cupcakes & had a Gyro {without too much of that cream} & back again to the shopping.

 

Some more peeks of what caught my eye at market:

 

I absolutely loved these & gave me so many ideas & inspiration! An old lamp with strings of ribbon as shade, an armoire with a screen that almost looks like chicken wire {so French country!}, bottles with decoupage & paper roses, the now-so-famous glass domes, a lantern with paper paraphernalia & a tin tub that will look oh-so-cute with beautiful pillows & throws in a living room.

 

This organizer was everywhere & I think will just look adorable in a shop. I think it’s just a matter of time before this will be reproduced.               

The Lazy Susan organizer {from a ship where nuts & bolts are placed} will be so handy in my home office :

These grain sacks will be amazing as the cloth for a memo board.      

We saw some amazing signs. Sure , the “Cafe” sign has been used everywhere but not in yellow, or lighted for that matter, just imagine this at your breakfast table.

 

   

It may be a little too negative, but I thought the “No” sign was swell.

 

This one takes the cake for the best sign yet, except having a druggist like this in our times doesn’t sound really good.

        

   

 

 

 

 

Everybody needs some cool lighting & all women should have a Youth-O-Lator.
