  1. Courtney @ Project Pretty says:

So glad you had a wonderful weekend. I was off to the beach on Friday before I saw your post, so I just wanted to let you know that I said a prayer for you & truly hope that your spirits are lifted after a weekend away. *hugs*

Glad you had such a wonderful weekend, I have never seen purple glass before! Purple has never been my go-to in decorating, but that faded lavendar is lovellyyy.

  4. Michelle says:

I've never been…but I am coming to NYC in Aug for a few days…are you in the city at that time? I don't handle the heat that well, so it's not my favorite time of year in the Big Apple. I am planning all of my activities around air conditioning. lol

You all look beautiful by the way…I would look like a puddle!!

  5. Shannon @ What's Up Whimsy says:

My husband is from Newport, RI and when we went to visit the fam, they brought us to Fox Woods and Mohegan Sun… he won $500 and I got sick from the buffet. Good times.

  10. Starfish and Sundresses says:

Looks like it was the perfect weekend to cheer you up! I love those Japanese fishing floats. I never knew the official name. Time to do some ebay stalking! xx

I was there a few weekends ago with my friends and loved it! They have so many cute stores but how did I miss that antique store?!? I need to go back soon so I can check that place out!!

  12. The Neo-Traditionalist says:

  15. MaxxSilly says:

Newport is great. I suggest visiting some of the historic mansions next time you are there. The Breakers was home of the Vanderbilts. It is decorated beautifully and the grounds are too die for! There are lots of historic mansions to visit. You can find more here: http://www.newportmansions.org/page7016.cfm

  16. Averill says:

What great shopping! I had no idea Newport was so fab — if I had known, I would've made the trek when I was in CT for four years during college! (And that Mohegan Sun is craziness! The few times we went there I was always amazed at it's size — and how empty it usually was.)

  17. Laura@JourneyChic says:

What a great weekend! Mohegan and Newport are both so much fun. One of my best gals had her bachelorette party in Newport and oh my, did we have a good time!

  18. Susanne says:

We LOVE Newport and so glad you enjoyed your time here. Weather looks amazing for the rest of the week into the weekend and the best part here are the nights when the ocean breezes cool off the city streets. Come back soon : )

  19. Kiki says:

Looks like you had a great time on your mini vacay…love the pics..

    XOXO

I'm from RI…and if you plan on going again, let me know. I can totally give you my top recommendations.

  22. Brittany says:

surprised I didn't run into you – I spent the day at the beach then cruised the art festival as well!

  23. clm says:

What a great trip, I wish my mom & sister lived closer so we could do the same!

I usually just lurk your blog, but wanted to let you know what I know about purple glass, which isn't much!

My dad used to go bottle-digging (yes, there is such a thing!), which is basically just digging in really old landfills or around old homesites. The purple bottles are old bottles that used to be clear, but have some component in them that turns them purple when they're exposed to sunlight. I think they are only really old bottles, and only the clear bottles, but not real sure. Pretty cool!!

  24. Hopeless Chest says:

    Looks like so much fun.

The purple glass would look so pretty in a crisp white bathroom!

  25. nycgirlygirl says:

Hi. I'm planning on going to Newport just prior to Labor Day… What are your recommendations for shops, tours, hotel, restaurants, etc… things to do. I think my mom and I will stay there 2 nights then head up to Maine for the remainder of the trip. Can't wait!!! Definitely have to stop at Armory Antiques… Thanks for the blogging… you do an amazing job.

ON THE BLOG

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.

Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.

On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]

round up of budget friendly bar carts

Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]

For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
