Weekend Recap: I’m over it…

  1. Jane Little says:

I am so with you on the Globes. The dresses were…pretty. When that’s all you can say about a show with so many stylists etc… that’s pretty ho hum. Then there was the weird hair. Hellen Miren looked beautiful. IMHO she was the stand out.

  2. I did love the black, but can totally understand needing a change after three years. Easier to paint a bathroom than a living room or some other big space, right?

Are you doing emerald green? That’s my color of the moment. Contemplating painting my closet that color!

    • effortless says:

Oh I love emerald green, but since I just had the black color in there I wanted something lighter so no emerald green.

  3. shannon says:

Cant wait to see how it turns out.

  4. Heidi M says:

The black was precious, but that’s the beauty of paint– inexpensive to change when you’re “over it”! Looking forward to the reveal!

  5. Amanda says:

all weekend i talked myself out of jumping right in and priming over my sons dark green (yuck!) bathroom. i usually work weekends so i made myself avoid any big projects but i have a feeling your makeover will have me priming in no time.

speaking of priming over a dark color, what primer did you use?

can’t wait to see the new look!

    • effortless says:

I used Kilz and it worked really well. It is a bit stinky so that wasn’t fun, but I just did two coats and it covered up the black really well.

  6. I just went dark in my dining room- not black, but navy! It’s a strong color but I’m loving it! Can’t wait to see what you do in your bathroom!!

  7. Deb's mind says:

I think you are going blue or pink…….hmmmm…..I wonder if I am right. 🙂

  8. Sarah says:

It’s great to start over. Looking forward to the end result. I watched the globes and loved Natalie’s dress. She is an effortless beauty.

  9. Camila- I will try a guess of blue-leaning lavender. Whatever color, I’m excited to see if you’ll change the accessories, too or leave as be. The black and white mirror could go with anything.

  12. Erin says:

My bathroom has very similar tile to yours but it’s a light gray with a thin black row on top. I have several paint samples on the wall in the dark to very light purp-ly family and i’m not feeling it. I’ve been thinking black in the back of my mind so now I’m just going to go for it!

    • effortless says:

Go for it! I loved painting my black. People were shocked at first, but once they were in the space they loved it as much as me.

ON THE BLOG

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.

Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.

On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
