Pattern Play: Eclectic Calm
I’m loving this new weekly feature. Last week there was a request in the comments to use Malino fabric from Calico Corners as the main fabric.
Here is my take on it:
1. My lovely reader Claire is dying to use Malino for curtain panels.
2. For those of you that don’t feel comfortable using a busy pattern on large part of the room like window panels I recommend going with a checki nstead and then adding a border on them to add a more elegant touch.
3. Now since the scale on the Malino fabric (#1) is on the larger side I wanted to find a smaller pattern for my toss pillows that still tied the room together. Enter conservatory in summer. We are picking up the blue/green shade in Malino (#1) without being too matchy/matchy and the pattern in it mimics the pattern in Malino (#1). I love adding contrasting piping so of course I would use orange here.
4. Since most of my other fabrics are budget friendly I decided it was okay to do a splurge and use Bagan in spark by Schumacher for some additional toss pillows. Again because Malino (#1) is on the busy side I decided to pick a wide stripe here and make it easy on the eyes.
5. Keeping with the pattern shape in Malino (#1) I found a neutral fabric with a simple shape in it’s pattern to be used to recover two side chairs. Coming in at $20 a yard it won’t break the bank.
6. I always like adding an “off” fabric into the mix in order to break things up. This is where La Travail comes into play. It’s gray background is neutral so even though there is no other gray in the room it doesn’t distract. The color in the pattern ties into the fabric being used to recover the chairs (#5) so that is our common ground that makes it all work.I would use this for additional toss pillows.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
I’m also LOVING this feature… I become so, so overwhelmed with fabrics… I usually find one with a pattern that I love, and I can find a matching solid, but trying to find additional patterned fabrics to compliment… uh… I have a really hard time, like I become panicky! Seriously! 🙂 Anyhow, if you are looking for some suggestions for a future feature… may I present the following fabrics (follow the link):

Love this feature! It’s so fun to see where you go with these fabrics. I hope I’m learning a little along the way, too…. I’m wondering what you would do with Kravet’s Jellybean 1635 large-scale floral (http://www.kravet.com/search/fabdetail.asp?Code=FAB&Cat=PRI-Print&Price=All&x=18&y=31&Page=3&pat=JELLYBEAN&clr=1635). I love the grays and aquas, but would like to add another (non-neutral) color to the mix.

I have a hard time figuring out what other patterns can compliment ikat without going too overboard. Could chinoserie and ikat ever work together in one room? I love these posts, better than House Beautiful Instant Room!

I now need to pick out fabric for drapery panels and I need pillows for our neutral couch…a rug is on its way that is a grey/tan natural shade. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!
