My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
I love them!!

They’re so ugly, but that is definitely what I love. They are the quirky hairless dog that only a mother could love.
I LOVE them! I only found one lonesome dog at a thrift store a few months back and I brought him right home and I plopped him on my bookcase. You can see them in a picture of my bookshelf in yesterday’s post: http://kcinteriors.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/campaign-dresser/
Please forgive the lack of bookcase styling.
Lucky girl! Those would have had an extra zero on the end here in the city!!!
I like them! I might spray paint them a fun color – but then again, I have a thing for spray paint.
i love them!!! super great find… and i hope they live on the bookshelf 🙂
Ugly, but in an awesomely intentional way. I love them and for $2.99? How could you not take them home with you?
I think they’re cute, in an interesting sort of way. They should definitely stay to live on your entry console.
Oh what a great find! My grandmother had a pair of Dalmatian Staffordshires when I was growing up and I’ve been on the lookout for my own pair but all the ones I’ve seen have an extra couple of 00s on the end!

Sorry Jon, you lose. Camilla wins. Enjoy your new pups! The end.
love them! Tell Jon to suck it up because they are fab. And if you are anything like me, they could be gone in a few months anyways to make room for new finds 🙂
“Cocker spaniel Foo Dogs” Love it! Yeah, they’re pretty ugly but they are in nice, undamaged condition.
Check out the April issue of House Beautiful (pg 48) – ypur thrift store find were made into lamps for a cottage.
Ohh adorable! Now if they only had them of my monster pup, although I think they typically stick to little dogs for these.
What is it about men and those dogs?!! I have a pair I bought when I was in college (reproductions, but I love them so!) and my husband has expressed his passionate dislike of them continuously since we started dating. I kind of hid them on the bookshelves in our library finally, and he still makes a rude comment about them every time he notices them there. Harumps. I think yours are great– and a great price, too!
I definitely wouldn’t have picked them out, but they do look good in all the pictures you showed. So I suppose they’d fit right in on a styled table or something.
NOT Cocker Spaniels (that would be ugly)! They are Staffordshire (or knock-off) English Toy Spaniels! That is the dog of royalty in the last century. If you look at the old British tapestries, it is most often an English Toy Spaniel woven into the design. They are the lap dogs of royalty. Just an aside, I have the flesh and bone real version (as well as some of the china ones) and I think they are wonderful. They will definitely give your shelf some old world charm.
They are not the most attractive..just saying..I kind of second the whole spray paint experience..
Regards,
Shelley
Shelley,
Jon is going to love this comment. I know they are ugly, but I like them just the way they are. I placed them on my mantle today. We’ll see what he says.
🙂 Camila
“Ugly” has its charms!
Don’t know if you ever read the Anne of Green Gables books as a kid, but I saw these and immediately thought of Gog and Magog, the ceramic dogs on Miss Lavendar’s mantle in her stone house. Made me smile and now I’m on the lookout for some of my own!
I have a funny story about these dogs. The year after college I moved to Mass and rented a hosue from an older woman who had a set of the orangeish ones on her mantle. My roommate and I would hide them all over the house for the other to find, it was quite funny. We thought they were a bit ugly ourselves, but I like the whiteish one better!
I say put them on a bookshelf for sure 🙂
I love Staffordshire Dogs! They are so classic- don’t spray paint them!!! They are perfect as is and are made for a mantle. (that’s where mine are)
