This weeks IN HER SHOES featured lady is a long time favorite. I was lucky enough to strike up an email friendship with Cristin of Simplified Bee during the beginning of my blogging career and was lucky enough to meet her in person back in September. One of my favorite parts of her blog is her series called What would you do? where she asks 4 different bloggers to design a room around a specific item. I always love seeing how differently everyone always uses the piece. I hope you enjoy a day in her life!

There is no typical day in my house, but this was a recent Thursday. It also happened to be the first week of summer break for my kids, so a little squirrely.
6:30am – Roll out of bed, throw on some Lululemon pants and a tee and off to the gym for a quick workout before my hubby needs to head out for work.
7:30am- Take a peek at the chicken to make sure they have food and water. Yes, we have backyard chickens. They are now three months old. We are concerned that “Fluffy”, the white chicken is a rooster. In that case, he will have to find a new home. Our city doesn’t allow us to keep roosters. So, we are crossing our fingers and toes that we will have some eggs in a few months.
7:31am- Encourage the kids to eat breakfast, make their beds and get dressed for the day. This is easier said than done. Sometimes I think I’m herding cats.
8:30am- Eat my breakfast and then shower.
9:15am- The kids are off to a friends for a play date.
9:15am- Answer emails, Facebook and tweets. Then spend a few minutes on my favorite new site, Pinterest {careful, it can be a black hole!}.
9:25am- Michaela arrives. She a blogger, interior design student and my summer intern. Love her. She recently wrote a great article on design tips for maximizing small living spaces. We take a tour of my place, talk about a design blogger meet-up in San Francisco we are helping plan and then off to a meeting.
10:00am – Meeting with interior designer, Leslie Lundgren. Leslie has been a friend of mine for years and has impeccable taste. Recently I have been assisting her in several design projects. Michaela too will be helping out this summer. The image above is a peek at an inspiration board for boy’s bedroom we putting the finishing touches on.
Noon- Michaela heads out and I pick up the kids from their play date. Spend the afternoon with the kids.
3:15pm- Take the kids to swim practice. Check email and voicemail from my iPhone while the kids swim.
5:30pm- Back at home. Start making dinner for the family. Chicken fajitas with guacamole. I love avocadoes! The kids will pick at the fajitas, but I don’t like cooking two meals. J
6:00pm – Back on the computer to work on a blog post for later in the week.
6:30pm- My husband comes home and we eat. We are really trying to have as many family meals together as possible.
7:15pm- Back on the computer blogging {about chic trash cans from Waterworks!}, tweeting and sourcing products for clients.
8:30pm- Watch some TV with my hubby. We loved American Idol and miss it. I find Million Dollar Decorators entertaining {but, not sure if it is giving designers a bad image?}. My hubby refuses to watch it. My fave on the show… Kathryn Ireland’s French housekeeper, “Jack-leen.” She’s a riot.
9:30pm- Head off to bed. Yep. I love my sleep and enjoy going to bed early.
So that’s a day in my shoes! Whenever I where these sandals, people stop and ask me who makes them. They are by Skemo and I purchased last year at Trina Turk {although I don’t think she carries them anymore – check google!}.

I love Cristin‘s bedtime! Lately I find myself settling into bed at the same time! I hope you all have a lovely holiday weekend! I’m looking forward to enjoying some down time and eating some BBQ.
A big thank you again to everyone for all of the love we have received this week. Jon and I are super excited to finally be on the mom/dad track and can’t wait to meet this little one in December.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
