We already discussed the inspiration for the nursery and now I have the fun part of sourcing all of the little touches in the room.
We are leaving our lucite ceiling fan up in the room so we didn’t need new lighting there, but we are converting the closet into a changing table station and that little nook does need some lighting love.
Of course I went back to one of my inspiration shots and tried figuring out how on earth I could afford a custom piece like the one in this room:
{Love everything about the room including the bejeweled emerald green chandelier. Design by Tobi Fairley. }
I tried searching for some inexpensive alternatives and found this beauty:
Now it wasn’t exactly the same, but had a similar vibe to it. Of course it was still above my budget at $895.
I thought all hope was lost until I saw this image on Pinterest:
The chandelier had me at hello and I immediately thought it was by Majorie Skouras and therefore thousands of dollars out of my price range.I happily found out that it was custom piece designed by Lindsay of Simply Salvage and only $450.
Of course I immediately contacted Lindsay and we are now working on a custom piece for my little nook that resembles my inspiration lighting a bit more. Since mine is going to be a different size and overall shape I was happy to learn that my price will be a bit lower as well.
Now the fun part! I need to settle on a bead choice for my piece. It’s less expensive to go with wooden beads and have them custom painted, but it’s time consuming and you don’t get the true gem look on the piece.
I’ve been searching for beads with Lindsay’s help and these are my final picks:
My original thought was to go with dark green beads and then instead of natural rope cording go with a brightly colored cord. Of course I always love a good dose of orange in a room so my mind and fingers started searching though orange beads and because it’s for a little man I decided to add a bit of blue in the cording.
Now I like both options and can’t pick! Are you leaning one way or another?
Very clever to figure out a solution that works for you.
I am in love with the green beads (green is my go to color lately.) The translucent would be my choice.
I would also stick to either jute or metal-tone (gold?) for the cording. The green+orange may work for you now, but down the road it will be a challenge to reuse a green and orange statement piece.
I love both, how are you going to decide?! How dark is the space you will be using it in? How bright will the light be? I feel like the green beads will make the piece darker and not let as much light out….however I might just be making that up in my head!
Oh my goodness…first off that first room gives me the chills- the colours and pattern are so unexpected in a kids’ room and I love love it! NExt, how fabulous about the chandy…it’s going to be SO good! My vote goes to the green beads- just so in love with emerald at the moment!
I like the blue/orange combo. The orange would add to the lovely glow when lit. The blue contrasts nicely without being too brash.
My first impression when I saw the orange/green combo was ‘christmas colours’ (as it is quite a reddish orange). My second thought was that the green could be quite dark and heavy – fine if that works with what else you are doing with the room. I like the colour of the green though, it is lovely and rich.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Both gorgeous, but I’m loving the green beads!
oooo!! I can’t wait to see it finished! I’m loving the orange beads!

So fantastic – Lindsay’s work is just beautiful! I love both options but the emerald is soooo dreamy! cant wait to see the result!

Love them both–hard to choose! Emerald and orange i HOT right now, but the other combo might be more timeless?
