Today’s featured lady made me reminisce about the time I spent living in D.C. It was only for a little over a year, but I truly enjoyed my time living in our nation’s capital and would move back in a heart beat. Meg from Mimi and Meg gets to call D.C. home and works as a business consultant and artist. It was fun to see what her day comprises of. Lately my days have been mostly spent in front of the computer so I was totally jealous reading about all of outings in one day.

Hello! Meg here from MIMI+MEG! I’m so excited to be a part of the In Her Shoes column. My days vary but this is a good peek at a typical day. My husband wakes up at 5:30 a.m. to get on the road by 6 a.m. The traffic in the DC area is crazy! Sometimes I can fall back asleep. When I can’t I just get a very early start to the day with some green tea.
Usually after making tea, I start working on blog posts with the news on in the background.
Straighten up my office, go through mail, bills, lists, and get ready for the day.
I prefer doing my workout in the morning, recently it’s been Bikram yoga. I bring two bkr water bottles for during and after yoga because of how much I sweat (the room is heated to 105 degrees!).
Right after my workout I shower, and get ready for the day while sipping on coffee
and listening to The Today Show. Kathie and Hoda crack me up.
I recently purchased some new makeup that makes getting ready a little more fun.
Pack my laptop bag with all the necessities for working with my clients for that day.
Laptop, client folders, mouse, favorite pens, chargers…
Traveling in the DC area midday is usually much easier than at rush hour.
So I tend to try for late morning travel.
After the metro ride, I take the escalator up to Dupont Circle to meet with one of my clients.
Comfy flats are a must! I wear these Tory Burch flats all the time!
Today, I get to walk by this gorgeous fountain in Dupont Circle on a beautiful day.
Then head over to Georgetown to meet with another client and attend an event.
Pick up a gunmetal pouch at the Refinery29 DC launch party at Madewell.
My new pouch holds a lot of business cards!
Head home, take off my jewelry, and change into comfy clothes.
Start laying out what I’m going to pack for a wedding we are traveling to Texas for this weekend.
Fix dinner for me and my husband.
Mixed greens, feta and champagne dressing with garlic, yellow pepper chicken.
Open a bottle of Pinot Noir for dinner after a long day.
And after the dishes, more blogging, working, and maybe an episode of something on my DVR, I curl up in bed with one of the many magazines in my stack to be read.
On days I don’t meet with clients I work from my condo, brew a pot of coffee that I sip on all morning (I love coffee), listen to music, do the laundry and stuff around the house while I work. Some of my favorite days are spent painting, or when I have lunch or happy hour with friends I’ve met since I moved to the DC area.
Thanks for spending a day with me!
Meg

A big thanks to Meg for sharing her day with us! TGIF to all of you.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
i feel like i find so many new fun bloggers when you do “in her shoes”. love these!
and i WANT that red nail polish meg is wearing in that first photo. wonder what kind it is?
It’s actually a shellac mani, so I don’t really know the specific color, or even polish. Sorry! But that mani lasted 2 weeks with NO chips at all and was still shiny!
Looks like a full day, but a fun one too!
