Today’s featured IN HER SHOES lady is the effortlessly stylish Erika from Small Shop. Small Shop is a branding studio that Erika runs. Her graphic design skills are out of this world and I’ve been saving my pennies to use her company when I re-design Effortless-Style. I loved getting a peek into her day. Enjoy checking out her little mini-me and some of the latest projects she is working on.

Hello! I’m Erika from small shop and I’m excited to bring you along through my typical day. I’m sure it always seems more glamorous than it actually is! ;o)
6:30 am My 3 year-old saunters in, usually with an agenda for her morning. Today she grabs my iPad to watch some random video she saw last night.
7:15 am After breakfast, I head back upstairs, and she follows me up. She is in her “copy mommy” phase, and it cracks me up — eye shadow, really???
8:15 am My husband will usually take her to school after I get her and myself ready for the day. Even though I work from home, I usually try to dress the part — it helps me feel more creative for my stylish clients! My go-to uniform: casual blouse, skinny jeans, cute shoes, and a scarf or fun necklace.
8:45 am My husband is awesome and brings me back coffee. Yay! I’ll take the dogs out for their morning walk — we got our Shiba Inu (Maya) when we lived in NYC. Kekoa, our big lap dog, is an Akita. He’s a lover not a fighter. ;o)
9:00 am My workday begins. I spend the first hour going through my inbox and getting back to as many inquiries as I can. Some days I’ll have a moment to check a few blogs.
10:15 am I try to schedule only 1-2 projects a day, otherwise my brain gets flooded with the multitude of tasks on my plate! Today, I get to work on a new brand I’m developing. We just launched a temp page for a new client! It was such a blast to get to collaborate with the talented Inslee Haynes. Fun!
12:30 pm Break for lunch, go through my packages. One of the perks of this job is I get sent materials and products for editorial consideration.
1:00 pm Back to work. I’ve got to get these files off to my Developer for my new site! It’s been in the works forever as it’s tough to find the time to work on it. Sneak peek:
6:00 pm My daughter’s home and will usually eat dinner before us. Then she’ll get very busy with her toys or her current favorite Disney movie while I make dinner for my husband and myself. The trail…
7:45 pm She goes up for a bath and bed, and then my husband and I get an hour to watch TV while we eat. I try to get on my iPad and check out more blogs. Then we usually get back to work. I have to do all blogging after dinner, otherwise I’ll never have billable hours in the day!
11:00 pm I try my best to be in bed at a decent hour! I always have to read a little to get my brain to calm down and stop thinking. So I’ll either tackle that stack of magazines and catalogs I have piling up, or read a good spy novel. Either way, it’s a great way to end the day!
Thanks for coming along with me today!

What a day! So happy that I’m back in the swing of things with IN HER SHOES. If you want to check out all of past ladies that have been featured (there have been 70!) click here.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
