I’ve always had an image in my mind of what my dream house would look like. Luckily for me Jon and I have always had really similar views on what type of house we envisioned ourselves in and when we found our little cottage we were both smitten.
Lately though our little cottage has felt like it’s busting at the seams and I’ve been finding myself searching real estate listings when I’m trying to avoid work. Last week Jon came home with exciting news, because one of our favorite houses in town was finally had a for sale sign on their lawn!
I’ve waited for years for this house to go on sale and even toyed with sending the owners a letter and asking them to let me know when they were going to sell.
Isn’t she pretty?! It was love at first site for both Jon and I.
The backyard has a 2 car garage and an attached studio that has bedroom, kitchenette and full bathroom.
I had to see the inside of it and see if I loved it. I quickly made an appointment to see it and last weekend we got to get a peek. There were some downsides to the house the bedrooms were small, but we already expected that and the kitchen is teeny tiny, which we didn’t really expect. The other snag is that it’s in the same school district as the one that we are trying to get out of so if we bought it we would need to put Hudson in private school, which is pricey! Lastly the house is a bit overpriced considering it’s fair market value and what similar houses have recently sold for.
Even with all of the downsides we still left in love with the house and could envision ourselves in it. We are not sure if ultimately it will be meant to be, but at least it got the wheels turning and we are currently getting our house appraised to see what we could sell it for, because we need to sell before buy.
Are you in your dream home or are you still waiting for the one?
I like your style! 🙂 My dream house went on the market recently too, however its still way out of budget, so the dream continues. I hope everything works out and you guys can move!
That is super exciting! Good luck! We are currently living in our dream home…there are a few things that we’d love to change, but all in all, we couldn’t be any happier and are SO thankful. Only downside is that it’s probably not our forever home since we are military, moving is party of the deal. Who knows, maybe we’ll get a few back to back postings here, or maybe we’ll rent it out if we are posted out. fingers crossed!
This is a great time to sell, so good luck! My advice is get in a good school district. Private school tuition always goes up, you never know how many kids you’ll have (unless you are done), and that is something like location, location, location that always adds value to a home.

There’s still so much I want to do to my house, but it’s tough as a single gal to save up and make big projects happen. I’m bound and determined to get my half bath installed before I sell and move on.
P.S. That house is just gorgeous from the outside.
being in the situation of looking for our perfect house, we have gotten to the place we should have been in at the beginning of the search–knowing that we must be patient and knowing that the house is out there for us and with proper faith and patience we will find it.
It is clear from these pictures why this is your dream home. I love the dark shingles and the contrasting trim and shutters. It’s a beauty. But, don’t settle if a quality school district is a priority. The right one will come along.
Lucky enough, my husband and I are in our dream home (or “forever” home, as we call it) and we are planning to stay for a long, long time.
So…we bought a dutch colonial approx 2 years ago. Whew…we’ve totally redone ‘almost’ everything and LOVE it! Let me know if you want to see what we did with the small kitchen and dining – – everyone loves it!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
