There is nothing I love more than fresh flowers in a home. It’s the one little treat I let myself indulge in on an almost weekly basis. I not only love the way that they look in a space, but I love actually putting them together. Everyone in my family knows never to send me flowers from a florist or a pre-made arrangement from a website floral distributor. I will never love the mix of flowers the florist picked, I will be annoyed by the type of greenery they used or the vase they put it in. I’m a floral snob and I’m not afraid to say it. I would much rather receive a bundle of fresh flowers that I can cut, arrange and add to if I so decide.
Enter BloomysBox a monthly subscription service where you can pick the size of the bouquet you would like either small, medium and large plans and then they pick the flowers. Every month you will receive a bouquet with single variety blooms. Each month is a surprise and if you happen to be out of town for a month you can always skip a month.
You can sign up for up to a year and then will get automatically billed every month. Sounds like an amazing gift for a husband to give their wife. Hint hint Jon. Plus the longer the plan you sign up for the cheaper the monthly fee is.
My first box arrived the other day and I’m in love!
I’m all about the details so I really enjoyed all of the care and attention that was given to the appearance of the package. Loved the chic kraft paper wrap and that hand tied ribbon. Plus it was secured into place with a zip tie to ensure that it didn’t get shuffled around during transit.
We only just met and they know we so well already….orange roses!
Another detail I really appreciate was that all of the roses had the thorns removed. A lovely touch since I would be arranging and handling them.
Before you start arranging don’t forget to cut your stems on a angle under running water.
If you are new to floral arranging then working with a single variety is wonderful. It makes it a lot easier to have to deal with the scale and texture of other varieties. I simply start building my arrangement one stem at time outside of the vase.
Now because some of the roses are now on an angle you are going to have lots of different lengths on your stems. Simply give them another angled trim so that will all be the same height when you add them to your vase.
Doing it outside of the vase makes things so much easier. I think people get into issues when they snip them and then add them one at a time to the vase. It will never look good. I also think people tend to leave them too long. I know long stem roses look impressive when they arrive, but I never leave them that long. I always cut them down at least by half the length.
It also helps to have an adorable striped vase to put them in. Get creative with your vase choices. This is actually a pitcher but it works perfectly for flowers and the stripes add a fun touch and much more exciting than a plain jane glass vase.
I had so many flowers in the large bouquet that I used some to mix with existing peonies for yesterdays post.
I moved the flowers instead afterwards so that they could be in my cool house instead of the heat outside and they look perfect in my living room as well.
I’m in love with BloomsyBox! I’m all signed up and decided to treat myself for 6 months! I will make sure to keep you all updated on how it goes.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
