You all know that I’m a tassel girl! My tassel roman shade is one of my favorite projects. But I must that I have started to cheat on tassels with pom poms! More specifically I decided to dress up a basket I picked up recently at a thrift store for $3! It only took a couple of minutes and then voila I had my own pom pom basket!
I’m pretty sure the basket I picked up was actually a planter. They had a ton of similar options, but if you don’t happen to stumble upon one this one available online is one of my favorites.
The best thing I did for making my little pom pom basket was picking up a pom pom maker. It made the job super easy!
It’s super easy to do!
You just need to wind the yarn on the maker:
The directions on the box didn’t explain this, but you need to keep going with the yarn until it reaches the sides of the pom pom maker:
The first time I made one I didn’t go all the way to the sides and when I started snipping the yarn everything fell apart.
Then you just need to cut right down the middle. At first I did it with scissors, but a razor was much faster and cleaner.
Then you need to take an extra piece of yarn and tie it in between the pom pom maker sides. Make sure you make it super tight. I double knotted them.
Then open up the maker and voila a pom pom!
It was so easy to take this:
Into this:
I’m going to use it in my living room and store my magazines in it!
First off, I love your home and all the bold applications of color and pattern — has inspired me to take risks where I can in my own home (even though it’s a rental).
Now that you’re on the market for a new home (and I’m assuming thinking about selling your current house) do you ever second-guess some of the design choices you’ve made? Like orange grout and painted turquoise floors? Will you revert those customizations back to something “personality-neutral” when you put your house on the market?
Just curious! I also can’t wait to see what you dream up for your next home!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
looks perfect! and clearly worth a lot more than a find at a thrift store.

This is a great question! I’m going to write up a blog post about this! Stay tuned!
