When my sister moved into her apt she had a little nook in her bedroom that left her stumped. It was an odd size, but large enough to be used. The main issue was that it wasn’t very wide and the bedroom door swung into it making furniture placement difficult. She originally had a desk in that area, but we decided it to replace it with a reading nook instead.
We were on a budget, but I still wanted to make an impact with a large piece of artwork since there would not be a lot of furniture in the area. I considered making her piece, but at the end of day I fell in love with a piece by Parima Studios.
Since I was on a budget I clearly could not pick up an original piece. I also couldn’t stretch my budget for a canvas. A little light bulb went off when I saw that they had a section of wall tapestries. Tapestries start at $39 for a 51″ x 60″ canvas and that was within my budget. Now the only issue was that I hated the look of wall tapestries. When they are loose on the wall they just look like something out of a dorm room and that was not the look I was going for.
So, Jon picked up some 1″ x 2″ sections of pine and L brackets to make a frame and then we simply stapled the wall tapestry to the frame.
Doesn’t it look perfect in the reading nook!
I picked up the cozy ottoman at a consignment for $30! I wanted a rug to ground the space and I found this beauty on RUGSUSA. It’s currently not up on their site, but I found it here.
The accent chair was picked up in a thrift store for practically pennies and the accent pillow was on clearance at Target.
I think my favorite part is the little heart in the artwork. I love the impact it made and it was under $50 for the whole thing!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
