Years ago when my parents were ripping me away from streets and Manhattan for our new life in the suburbs the only plus in my eyes was that I was getting my own room! Not only was I getting my own bedroom, but I was able to pick out the paint color, furniture and all of the accessories. That was something I was excited about. Throughout the years I changed it up quite a bit and even switched rooms at some point, but one thing always remained!
The two toned pink and lilac formica furniture that was custom built for the room! Fancy, huh! If only I had the foresight to get something more timeless.
Here it is in all it’s glory! When my parents became empty nesters they left the furniture and just made it a guest bedroom.
When I was pregnant with Hudson I got in there and fixed it up, but it was never officially finished until a couple of months ago. You saw some of the photos in the Glitter Guide piece, but they didn’t use all of the photos so, I wanted to share them here.
It was nice to be able to go in and give the room a whole new look! A neutral wall color let me go color happy with what I brought in, but still kept things bright! I have a tendency to hoard vintage furniture pieces and I was able to bring in a bed and and dresser I had in storage. My parents old wing chair got a new life with a slipcover and then I was able to bring in pattern with the bedding, accent pillows and curtains from my fabric stash.
Since so many finds were vintage it was hard to source items, but here is a round up of some accessories that will help you get a similar look.
I have followed you on and off since your blog was High Heeled Foot in the Door, and you have always had a great talent for mixing patterns and bright colors. This room is another great example.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
You do it again! Master of gorgeous pattern matching; really wonderful job.
I love the orange piping on the bench cushion!
What size are the blue and white striped pillows on the bed?
thank you
