Asher’s 3rd birthday bash was on Sunday and I think we are all still recovering from it! For months now the little man has been asking for a crocodile/alligator party. We weren’t sure exactly what to do with that, but after some thought we figured a reptile birthday party theme was the way too go! I love color to much to go full on safari with muted green and khaki so we went with a bright and happy swamp vibe. Never though I would type swamp vibe. Ever.
I found the perfect invitation from Oh Be Joyful on etsy. Shop owner, Jessica designs the most beautiful cards with watercolor accents! We ended up going with her gator invitation:
Then I went thru my stash and realized I already owned so much of what wanted for the party. Adorable checkered tablecloths, orange accents, patterned napkins, balloons, etc! I did place one special balloon order and purchased a good amount of plastic reptiles and supplies to make party hats!
There was no mistaking what house had the party going on! I didn’t tell many people about what I was doing so we had a lot of surprised and happy guests when they arrived. My mom was dying laughing, because normally people put a couple of balloons to let guests know where the party is, but of course her daughter wouldn’t be happy with that.
We had lovely weather which was amazing. I wasn’t looking forward to having so many kids and reptiles in my house in case of rain. We set up our living and dining areas on our deck and then put additional tables on the lawn so that the kids could all have a place to seat together during meal time.
I used all of my party hat decorated reptiles as centerpieces and sprinkled them on paper leafs throughout the orange runners. The kids loved them!
I also sprinkled paper lantern and honeycombo garland throughout the party.
Hudson loved helping and decorating with all of the plastic reptiles. He got a big kick about having them scare people. One of his not so subtle hiding spots.
This was a fun way to bring the balloon fun from the front of the house to the backyard. I used our garden trellis and attached balloons to it and then taped a fun YAY balloon on top of it
In between the food and reptile show all of the kids enjoyed our playset and trampoline. There was a lot of energy going on, but they were able to burn it all off!
We had to get a group shot with the longest guest at our party.
Asher was obsessed with the cake! Everyone else enjoyed it as well and I’m happy to say we were left with no leftovers! I ordered a cake to feed 20 even though we had close to 40 guests. Everyone had a nicely sliced piece and it was nice not having loads of leftovers. All though if you ask Jon he is pretty sad he can’t have cake today.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]

Everything looks great!! Happy Birthday to Asher!
The party looks fab and I love the balloons greeting the guests fantastic idea!!! 🙂
Love the balloons in the front. Did you string them together?
I noticed your address on the invite and my sister lives in your neighborhood!
Working on a tutorial for the balloons, but yes they were strung together. So fun, that your sister lives in the area. We are moving at the end of the summer. Total bummer.
How did you make the hats for the plastic reptiles? Super cute I might try myself if it’s easy enough
It’s pretty easy. Just cut a piece of cardstock into a watermelon slice shape and then roll it into the hat shape.
Love all your cute decorations! Where did you get the reptiles! Wanted to do a reptile theme party for my son.
