As a seasoned mom I have been gifted many handmade gifts. I’m certain all moms have and while we love the macaroni necklaces and handprint paintings here is another fun DIY project for those parents that are feeling a bit more crafty this upcoming Mother’s day. I have always walked by the raw wood section in Michaels and have wanted to do something with these wood plaques they have. They have a saw tooth hanger on the back so they can been used as artwork, but you can also remove the saw tooth hanger and use it as a tray. So, here is my take on what I would do both ways, tray and artwork.
You need to start out with a large art plaque. I have always seen them at Michaels but perhaps other crafts stores have them as well.
They are in their natural state so, I just gave them a dose of color with high gloss spray paint.
After placing the faux leather piece inside the tray I poured a mixture of pour on high gloss finish. Then it needs to set overnight.
I have been using it on my vanity for nail polishes:
It’s the perfect size to line them up, but can also be used for jewelry or even drinks.
For the wall hanging I also painted the tray a high gloss color in this case pink and then I used some glitter letter stickers to write something on the wall hanging. You could do whatever you like, but we tend to get a little silly with our mom and, “Hey Girl” or the Spanish variation, “Miya” is a common hello.
You simply need to stick your letters done on the tray and then again with the pour on epoxy you cover all of the letters and fill the tray with it.
Smooth out any bubbles with a piece of cardboard. You gently need to graze the top of the mixture.
Let it set overnight and then get ready to hang!
I think it’s a fun pop to any gallery wall. It’s happy glittery take on the black and white typography artwork that we are seeing everywhere. I will take glitter any day of the week!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
That pour on epoxy looks so great! Fun!
