As a child of the 80’s I have seen my fair share of the Golden Girls Episode. Way before squad goals we had Dorothy, Blanche, Sophia and Rose. 4 sassy ladies that weren’t afraid of speaking their minds while living out their retirement years in a shared home in Miami, Florida. I’m sure we all know the words to their theme song and can’t help, but sing along when, “Thank you for being a friend” starts playing. This past year a Golden Girls themed cafe called, Rue La Rue cafe opened up in Washington Heights, NY. The cafe owner is Michael La Rue a dear friend of Rue Mcclanahan who was left with a crazy amount of Ms. Mcclanahan’s memorabilia after her passing. Instead of leaving everything in a warehouse in Queens, Mr. La Rue wanted to showcase it as a homage to Ms. Mcclanahan. After talking it over with Ms. Mcclanahan’s son they decided to become partners and Rue La Rue was born!
I was able to check it out this week and I just loved it! Here is a little peek of my experience.
When you walk in you are met with the iconic palm leaf wallpaper that automatically makes you think of the florida style the Golden Girls house was set in.
The walls are filled with Rue’s memorabilia. So many photos and scripts and the actual phone that was in the kitchen.
They even have one of your Emmy’s and the dress she wore to accept it.
There is also a TV that continuously plays Golden Girls episodes.
I had Sophia’s 16 hour lasagna, which was delish. They also had amazing desserts. We really enjoyed the chocolate cake. Next time I will be trying the Betty White Cake and some cheesecake, which was always a favorite dessert on the show.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
how fun, and the food looks amazing!
