You all know I love a good thrift shopping trip. Many times I pick up items that I just can’t stand to leave behind. Most times it’s a piece of furniture that I have to safe, but another favorite is fabric. I always check out window treatments and tablecloths. There are so many pretty retro/vintage one out there and you can always give them a new life as a pillow or frame it as a piece of artwork. Case in point during one of my last thrifting trips I found this adorable colorful animal filled window panel that looked perfect for a nursery. So, I grabbed with no need for it myself or for a client. I started building what I would do with it in a nursery and here is my plan.
No. 1 I would use the animal window panel and stretch it on canvas to make it artwork instead. It would be the focal point for the room and would look adorable above the crib.
No. 2 I love the retro vibe of vintage window panel. I wanted to have another vintage inspired item in the space and new right away would it would be. How amazing is this chandelier by Sazerac Stitches.
No. 4 I tend to just go with clean lines when it comes to cribs. I really liked the square base on this one.
No. 5 You can never go wrong with a stripe in my opinion. I think I manage to squeeze one to every room I design. Love the width of the stripes on this rug.
No. 6 Another nod to the retro feel in this space is done with the rocker. I really loved the mix of wood and upholstery and loved the lines of the rocker. Top it off with a colorful ikat pillow. I have never seen one with such bold colors.
No. 7 My last touch in the space would additional artwork for the space. I love the animal bust trend in nurseries and when I found these felts ones with whimsical color accents I was sold. I like doing art groupings in odd numbers so, I would do 3 and get an elephant, zebra and Tiger.
Now I just need someone to have a baby so, I can use my thrifted find and put this plan to action!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
