I have a little secret to share! You all know I love Trader Joes for their amazing flowers and yummy foods, but now I have a whole other level of love for them! The other day I was looking at some of their potted plants and realized they were next to their greeting card area. I was instantly drawn to all of the pretty cards and then I realized they were only a dollar! Can you believe it! Now I have never been one to spend a lot of cards. Yes, there are some beautiful ones, but they always end up in the trash so, I never really splurge on them. When I found out the cards were only $1 I started picking up all of the ones that spoke to me. Now it’s my first stop when I go to Trader Joe’s. I noticed that sometimes there are only a couple or just one of a certain card and you never know if it’s coming back. So many have beautiful fronts and no copy on them and others have copy with quotes and not a, “Happy Birthday” so they work perfectly as little pieces of artwork!
So, head to your local Trader Joe’s and join me in my obsession! It’s so simple to put it all together and make it go from greeting card to chic artwork! The best part is that the cards fit pretty perfectly into a 5″ x 7″ opening.
When you are working with a small piece of artwork I like the idea of going with a bigger frame and a mat is a must! It just helps makes the piece look special and no one will be asking if it’s a greeting card.
Another tip to make the artwork a little more special is by dressing up your mat. I have been known to wrap my mats in fabric for a punch of pattern, but it’s also super simple to paint it. Sponge brushes are the easiest for this because you won’t have brush marks to deal with.
Now if you ever want to use that greeting card as an actual card then I recommend putting into place on the mat with painters tape. This way your card is straight, but when you remove the tape you won’t ruin the card.
It will literally take minutes and such an easy way to add a piece to your gallery wall, photo ledge or bookcase.

I may or may not had already written in this card to give it to someone and then went back for another one to frame and couldn’t find it! So, instead I grabbed a new card for the gift and kept this beauty to frame!
It’s really turned into an addiction! I have so many cards now, because I loved the artwork on them.
I love this idea and there are so many resources for affordable “artwork “…postcards from museums or souvenir shops,Whole Foods,Papyrus,Hallmark and even the Dollar Tree! I framed a beautiful gift bag that had an elephant on it!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
