Sometimes clients reach out to me for a service called, Decorator On Call. With Decorator on Call I’m there to just offer a couple of hours of help in a room they are stuck on. So, I can give advice on layout, or a pillow arrangement, get custom window treatments ordered for them or give them on idea on what a blank room can look like. I’m not there for the project management part of the project, install or reveal. It’s fun for me, because I get to work on an array of different projects in a faster manner than my tradtional design clients. The downside is that I don’t get to see my advice/plans bought to fruition. It’s a great way to work with a designer when you don’t have a crazy budget.
I recently wrapped up a session for a client where you had a sun room in Florida and weren’t sure if they wanted to use it as a playroom, office, etc. I gave them the idea to use it as dining room of sorts and you could easily tweak my plan to make it a home office.
The client stressed wanting a tile floor in this space and I decided we should go bold and have fun with it! How amazing is this turquoise and light gray tile or the hexagon tile option is also a beauty. I can’t pick a favorite!
With the tiling as the jumping off point for the colors and vibe I then moved on to a dining table option. I will never tire of a good tulip table and I like that this one is bit different than your traditional circle or oval version. It’s a classic that will stand the test of time.
Having a rectangular table also gives us the option to go with head chairs. I found these vintage high back wicker chairs on Chairish and they are amazing! I would reupholster the seat cushion and then add a pretty pillow like this large scale turquoise and orange floral and the orange ikat pillow.
For the remaining dining chairs I would either go with these French bistro chairs in the prettiest shade of blue or this white chippendale chair which is a steal at $174. Please note it’s galvanized steel not wood. I would top it with these striped seat cushions!
To top it off I would add these stunning lighting pendant from Stray Dog Designs. It’s so unique and adds that little touch of whimsy that I love.
No window treatments are needed because the room is full of windows and looks out to the background so, they want to leave it all open. No rug is needed, because how can you hide those amazing floors.
Now, I’m itching for a tiled floor!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
