DIY PAINTED GINGER JARS
I love a good blue and white ginger jar. I’m constantly picking them up thrift stores and I have amassed quite a collection. They are the perfect home decor accessory to dress up a mantle, bookshelf, coffee table, etc. They can literally go anywhere. The best part? You can always add fresh flowers to them to dress them up! I was trying to figure out a cute idea for place cards and had the perfect idea while I was walking around the craft store! Terra Cotta pots turned DIY painted ginger jars! In my head I thought it would look fab and I then I made them and they are even better than I expected!
It’s a really simple project and doesn’t require crazy painting skills. I will say it’s pretty easy on the painting scale.
All you need is a terra cotta pots, Martha Stewart craft paint and paint brushes.
Step 1: Paint your terra cotta pots. I used a foam brush for this step, but you could also just spray paint them white if you like. If you are painting with a foam brush they will take around 3 coats.
Step 2: Once your pots have dried you are able to add your ginger jar detailing. Now blue and white ginger jars are available in many different patterns. My favorite happens to be the ones with the double happiness symbol. Best part of that is that it’s one of the easier ones to make.
Step 3: Once you get the main pattern done you can paint a border along the rim of the terra cotta pot.
Step 4: Now the pattern around the double happiness symbol is normally some sort of busy floral pattern in a swirly pattern. I made a similar look with a bunch of busy swirls in different directions.
Step 5: Let dry and then pot your plants!
So cute, right? I would add a little wooden skewer with a name flag on it and use it for placecards and then guests can take one home.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

Hi, What a cute idea to paint the pots with a ginger jar look. I can’t wait to try this on my terra cotta pots. Do you recommend a flat finish paint.

I used craft paint I had on hand and the white was flat and the blue was gloss. Both worked well and they are still going strong! You can easily spray them a high gloss sealer after you are done if they are going to be outside.
