A couple of years ago I made my first trip to the Catskills and it was love at first site. It’s only a 2-2.5 hour scenic drive, which makes it perfect for a weekend trip! I have gone a handful of times now and my favorite place to stay is Hubert House! Hubert House is a rental house in Jeffersonville, NY and is managed by Red Cottage Inc. I love finding a house rental when we are on vacation, because it’s nice to have a big amount of space to spread out in and not just a hotel room. I have done the Airbnb and VRBO route, but there is a lot of ugly out there. It can take hours to go thru everything in the hopes of finding something that I find pleasing. With Red Cottage Inc they take the guess work out and have a curated list of beautiful rentals in the Catskills area. Every house is stunning! I literally want to try them all out! My only issue is that I was introduced to Hubert House first by my sister and instantly fell in love! We have now stayed there 3 times. Hudson and Asher think it’s our personal vacation home! Normally we have gone in the summer because they have lake access and a large pool, which the boys love. This time around we decided to try it out the colder months and have a cozy winter weekend in the Catskills. We aren’t really skiers so, we had never thought about going during the winter, but we wanted some down time to get cozy by a fire and enjoy some snow!
Without having the activity of skiing I wasn’t sure what we were going to do. I started looking into a variety of options, but what I love the most about the Catskills is the house. I love the layout, I love the views, I love the land. Why leave it! We went out once to pick up food supplies at their local market called, Peck’s. We looked into Amazon Fresh, but they don’t deliver to Jeffersonville. In town there is also a pizzeria, Chinese food restaurant, bakery and if you want a nice meal out I highly recommend, Tavern on Main. It’s instagram worthy with it’s pretty decor and the food is amazing!
If you are planning on getting your cozy on with a winter weekend get-away here is what we did while we enjoyed the house and literally never really left. Jon and my brother in law, Steve were the only ones that left. One night to get pizza and another day with our supermarket haul.
We had coloring books for the adults and the kids!
A blank pad of paper was also a huge hit! The boys went nuts drawing all sorts of things and we had many drawing competitions that everyone participated in.
We always bring a couple of work on them late into the night and as soon as we wake up! It’s something everyone gets involved. Even Hudson and Asher get really into it by helping in sorting the pieces and are actually really good at finding where they go! I really love the puzzles by Michael Storrings,he has the prettiest designs.
We went all out for meal time! We all took turns cooking and it was nice to have everyone there to sit around the table and enjoy it all!
Reading is one of favorite things to do, but I don’t always have the time to do it. My favorite thing about Hubert House is their library. It’s full of the best thrillers! I always pick a couple and go thru them while I’m there. I actually missed dinner one night because I wanted to finish one of them before we left.
Here are the books that had me on the edge of seat! Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough was amazing! I normally figure out thrillers pretty quickly, but this one kept me guessing. My mind was blown at the ending and I keep hoping that it gets made into a movie. Highly recommend! I also read Girl Last Seen by Nina Laurin, which took me a little longer to get into, but once I was a couple of chapters in, I was committed and needed to know what happened!
Most evenings are spend playing games like Mexican Train Dominoes and LCR. Both are really good for adults and kids so, everyone is entertained. We normally sweeten the deal by playing with money! It’s the boys favorite part!
In between puzzle time and reading I got in some spa time. I packed up cute bow terry cloth headbands and peel off masks, which have a much easier clean up than a traditional mask.
We did venture out to play around the grounds of Hubert House. They have 20 acres for you to play around in!
We went out by the pool area where there is a small hill and we did a little snow tubing! It was a lot of fun!
Jon and I even ventured down to the lake to check out the view as well!
The living room has a fireplace which we lit everyday. It was so nice to stay in there and do our coloring, work on puzzles, put on our face masks and snack while being nice and cozy! The living room also has the best windows so, when it start snowing it felt like we were in a snow globe! We also made sure to pack our bathing suits and enjoy the hot tub! There is nothing nicer than getting into a hot tub after your kids have been put to bed. It’s bliss!
The whole long weekend was the perfect dose of cozy winter cabin and I’m happy to say I equally loved the Catskills in the winter! Can’t wait to go back for our annual summer trip!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
