Here on Long Island, we have now entered phase 2! Which means that we are hopeful that we are back on track. Construction was back up and running under phase 1 and we were able to get insulation put in. We are now waiting on getting a window company scheduled to install a bay window in the dining room. Even though construction is now opened it’s still slow going to get things done. It seems like not everyone is fully open and companies are still working with less staff so, appointments for installs are taking a bit. While we wait on the window installation we were able to get the house insulated. From the recommendation of the company we went with we did a combo of spray insulation in the attic and then regular insulation for the rest of the house. They said it wasn’t worth it to do the spray foam everywhere.
What a beautiful sight! It was so exciting to see us getting so close to actual walls and then flooring!!!!
Eventually, the bay window for the dining room will go on this wall!
After the insulation was done we spent a weekend cleaning up all of the mess. There was stuff everywhere from the demo and we wanted to have a somewhat clean slate for their to be room for the walls to go up. Trust me this looks so much better than what was there when we arrived.
After that weekend of cleaning, Jon was going to work on reframing the bathroom doorway and adding plumbing to the basement for the outside water spigots. His body had other plans. He came down with a fever and cold and we were all really scared it was COVID. He went and got tested, which he said felt like they were touching his brain! The test came back negative, but the Doctor told us to treat it like it was COVID and to quarantine him. So, for two weeks Jon lived in our bedroom and I moved to my parents’ guestroom.
Now that he is back to himself and out of quarantine he spent last week tackling those projects in order to get the walls put up. The bathroom doorway has been re-framed! He moved the toilet and the doorway in order to get a bigger vanity in the space.
I know this still looks crazy, but it’s so much progress!
He is almost done with the plumbing in the basement and we should be scheduling walls for next week. Fingers crossed! Renovating a home is no joke, but we know it will all be worth it in the end. I’m just happy that we have a place to stay while it’s going on. We are still at my parents and everyone is comfortable and happy. Plus it’s been nice to quarantine with them and still be able to see them on a daily basis.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
