Wreath making is one of my favorite DIY projects! I’m proud to say I have never purchased a ready-made wreath. They always seem so pricey and I think to myself that I could totally make it myself! Every season and holiday I make something new for the front door. It’s the beginning of the fall season and I wasn’t sure what to make. Then I found this awesome chunky yarn and I knew it would be perfect for a wreath! I shared how to do it on my Instagram Reels, but many people requested a more detailed blog post for my DIY Yarn/Crochet wreath!

Here is what you are going to need:
-WREATH FORM – WIRE or FOAM which I picked up at the dollar tree.
–CROCHET HOOK SIZE 10
–CHUNKY YARN -WEIGHT 7   I also found these options: NEUTRAL COLORS, BRIGHTER COLORS
–HOT PINK RIBBON, NEON BLUE RIBBON (in store/couldn’t find online link)
–YELLOW AND PINK FELT

Basically what are doing is making a single crochet stitch and your wreath frame is acting like one of the pieces of yarn when you have to loop in front of it.

Here are the directions in picture form:

Step 1: Make a slip knot.

Step 2: Put your hook in your slip knot. Then loop the yarn underneath the wreath form.

Step 3: Once it’s looped on the hook you are going to pull it through the first loop aka where you made a slip knot.

Step 4: Now your back to one loop and you just start all over again. That’s it. Super easy!

In one version I finished off the wreath by tying on a satin ribbon and making a bow. I hot glued the bunny ear part of the bow on the wreath to make it stay in place.

In another version, I cut out a bow from felt and glued that into place.

You can also move the yarn around while you are crocheting. In my first version, I had the looped/braid part on the front of my wreath. On the second wreath I kept that as a border and left the front without the braid/loop.
