Year in and out I see velvet pumpkins pop up on Instagram and I’m always so jealous! I want brightly colored velvet pumpkins too!!! However, after a little digging, I realized how pricey they were! As someone that constantly forgets where I put things, I didn’t want to purchase some and then forget where I store them for the following year. I also wanted to make a big impact with them which meant lots of velvet pumpkins which meant a lot of money! What’s a girl to do? A girl gets crafty and makes some DIY no-sew velvet pumpkins!!! It only took a handful of supplies and it was super easy to tackle!
I originally fell in love with the velvet pumpkin look from Rachel of
I picked up some brightly colored yards of velvet. I used a stretch velvet that is typically used in fashion garments but also works perfectly for this craft. It was only $7 a yard and you can get quite a bit of pumpkins from one yard. I wanted a variety of colors and purchased a yard each of pink, orange, yellow and green! I picked up the foam pumpkins at The Dollar Tree, but I’m sure every craft store must have some around. Lastly, you will need a glue gun and gold craft paint.
Take your pumpkin and place it a corner of the fabric and fold it over to make sure it can reach the steam of the pumpkin. Then cut a circle around the pumpkin that is that same length.
The step 2 is just as easy. Make little folds in the fabric and glue it right up to the base of the stem.
You will probably have to cut a bit more fabric when you get to the very end, but that’s simple enough to do. Don’t worry about getting crisp lines. The glue gun is your friend and it’s super easy to fold and glue down as you go. The stretch also comes in handy if you cut it a little too short. Give it a little tug and you will have enough fabric to reach the base of the stem.
Now you can leave it as is or add a little gold craft paint to the stem.
Super easy! Super colorful! Super budget-friendly for a fun take on seasonal fall decor! Are you ready to make your DIY no-sew velvet pumpkins?

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
