Weekend Recap: Film Biz Recycling

For the past couple of weekends I’ve been meaning to make into Brooklyn to check out Film Biz Recycling, a 11,000 sq ft warehouse where movie props go to get a second life.

It’s a non for profit that takes props from plays, movies, TV shows,  movies and commercials and makes sure that they get reused instead of going into a landfill.

All of items get sorted in this warehouse. Some of them get re-routed to charities and others are put out in the warehouse for sale. The warehouse is filled with home accessories like artwork:

Toss pillows from big box retailers:

Large section of bedding, window treatments and french linens:

Not only is there a variety of new items, but there is a big presence of vintage finds:

They also had a back row filled with categorized bins for easy picking:

Plus home improvement store supplies like a wall full of paint cans!

I had fun checking out the space. It looks like items move fast so I think it may have to become a weekly stop for me.

Of course I didn’t leave empty handed. I found a floral needlepoint in perfect condition in a stylish bamboo frame.  It was the perfect colors for my living room gallery wall.

Best part of the store? They haggle so I was able to walk away with my artwork piece for only $20.

Did you venture out to a new shop in your neighborhood this weekend?

I want to go! One of my favorite places is Midland Market in Indianapolis. It’s an old sash and window factory. I made a recent trip there. Check out my finds.
