One of the services I offer is called Decorator Handbook. Decorator Handbook is for those of you that need a finishing touch in your room like toss pillows or accessories. It is also for those of you that are staring at a blank room or semi finish room and need a little nudge in the right direction. Sometimes you just need a pair of fresh experienced eyes to take a look at your home/room and get the ball rolling.
I recently wrapped up a Decorator Handbook session with a client that had a fabric in mind for a duvet cover, but wanted help on additional fabrics in the room.
Originally the client wanted to continue the yellow/gray theme and add more fabrics in that colorway:
The only problem was that there was a big elephant in the room. In her case it was wall to wall forest green carpeting that in no way was leaving.
We tried to ignore the color and pretend it didn’t exist, but in the end we needed to come to terms that whether we liked it or not that forest green carpeting was one of the main focal points in the room and we needed to work with it and not against it.
Here is what I came up:
My client still got to use the fabric she had wanted for the duvet, but the accent fabrics I picked out worked with the color story I had picked out to work with the forest green carpet.Win, win.
I sent over my recommendations yesterday and the client loved it. She had never thought of going this route and was happy to see that she could get a new look and embrace the carpeting.
If you feel like you could use my set of eyes for your room/home then please feel free to contact me (camila@effortless-style.com). The Decorator Handbook rate is only $60 for a one hour consult. The majority of the clients I had use this service only end needing 1-2 hours.
Great plan! It’s definitely so much better to work with an eyesore than against it. You chose a mix of patterns I wouldn’t have thought of and I bet it will look great! Hope your client shares the after photos.
I just found your blog through Google and am battling the same issue. My husband and I are about to move into a rental with green carpet through the whole house. This gives me hope. Did she ever send you afters? Where would I find them?

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
Adore what you came up with. Can she budget for a large sea-grass with border around the edge to take away from some of the green?

OMG- I don’t think I could live with that carpeet no matter how great your fabric plan might be!
You did a fabulous job with this color story. I love the floral especially.
