When I re did my second bedroom and turned it into an office/guest bedroom one of the main pieces in the room was a large massive memo board behind the day bed. Now buying something that large would have been very expensive so DIY made it possible to get the same look.
Since homasote is made from recycled paper many people have contacted me to see how it has held up. I’m happy to report that there have no issues with this project. A couple of months ago I removed it from that room since it is now Hudson’s nursery and put in storage. The a couple of weeks ago I put it up in my office. I removed the blue moulding and yellow trim and just kept it wrapped in the white fabric. I added a thicker moulding and painted it an orange/red.
Voila:
DIY steps here.
Cost: $ 23 for board, $15 in moulding and $4 in spray paint.
Time: 1st time around 2-3 hours. Adding the yellow trim was time consuming.
2nd time around 1 tops including moulding dry time and hanging.
I highly recommend this project and love that I was able to re-vamp it and re-use it.

Love the scale and frame! I’m so old that I first made one of these in the early 90′s when it was first in MSL…
I wanted to make one of these but couldn’t find homasote anywhere!!! And when I did, nobody would cut it for me bc it’s too messy and bc of OSHA laws. Lame. So I made mine with brown hardboard and 2 layers of thick cork. Way more work, but it turned out nice. Still, would prefer homasote.
I love this idea! And that bedroom is so cute and creative. I love the wall right above the desk with the shelves and the organizational containers! If you get a sec, I’d love to hear your thoughts on my latest posts!
