This Friday I’m sharing how I decorated our backyard deck for the summer. I left all of the main players intact so, no new furniture pieces. Just a little bit of fun with new accessories! Can’t wait to share! I did want to give a little spoiler and share one of the fun floral arrangements I made for the reveal post. To me nothing says summer like a pineapple. I love them in home decor and they are great to use for centerpieces. I did a super simple centerpiece with them last summer, which literally took minutes to do. This year I decided to use pineapples as well, but get a little fancier and add flowers to the mix! Who knew that a pineapple would be the perfect vase!
Here is what you need to do!
Step 1: Make sure you grab a pineapple that stands flat. Some of them have little bumps on the bottom and lean one way or another. So, yes I was the crazy person at Trader Joe’s checking out all of the pineapple bases. 🙂
Step 2: Once you have your perfectly flat pineapple we get to slice the top off!
Step 3: Use a melon baller to make some room in your pineapple for your flowers. It’s pretty easy to remove the pineapple. It just gets a little tough when you get to the core. Nice part of doing this is that you save a lot of the pineapple to eat. So, it’s not wasted.
Step 4: Take a paper cup and place in the pineapple and fill with water.
Step 5: Arrange your flowers and enjoy!
I’m obsessed! I had seen them before and thought it would be such a hassle to make, but it was super easy and I got to eat some pineapple during clean up! I think I’m going to be making them all summer long. Such an affordable centerpiece. The pineapple was $2 and then I picked up 2 bunches of roses for $4.99 each at Trader Joes. You don’t need a lot of flowers to fill the space so, I had enough to fill too more pineapple vases.
What’s your go-to summer centerpiece? Do you stick with roses or hydrangeas? I love a good peony centerpiece, but they have a short season so, I tend to go with colorful roses.
I’m not sure. I’ve only left them out for a day for a party and then normally toss them. I would assume if you keep them in a refrigerated or cool area it should be good for a couple of days.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
It’s so pretty and so simple too!
You should invest in a pineapple corer (about $8 on amazon). Makes the job even easier!
Oh! Yes, I totally need to get one! I just wanted instant gratification so, I used what I had.
love it!
are the green leaves from the pineapple?
The green ones are actually filler from the rose bouquet. Picked them at Trader Joes.
How long can you leave it out before the pineapple goes bad?
I’m not sure. I’ve only left them out for a day for a party and then normally toss them. I would assume if you keep them in a refrigerated or cool area it should be good for a couple of days.
