My entire life I have woken up sprung out of bed to make my bed. Ok maybe not immediately. I have been known to hit snooze on the alarm clock and then officially woken up 15 mins later and before doing anything else I have made my bed. It’s a habit that started early on. My mom is the same way and when we were growing up it was one the chores we had to it. It was actually really the only chore my parents made us do and I made sure to do it without being reminded to do so.
I know some people love nothing more than getting back to into an unmade bed, but that just gives me all sorts of anxiety. I love nothing more than waking up, kicking Jon out of bed and then straightening up my bedding and getting the bed made complete with an array of accent pillows.
Today is National Make Your Bed and I just had to share my love of making my bed and our new bedroom. As you all now I’m currently crashing at my parents house while we continue the house search. We finished unpacking this weekend and I’ve been having the best sleep. While I loved our old bedroom I actually designed the room we are staying so, it has felt like home.
Of course a new room calls for new bedding!
Check it out!
Typically this room had a white duvet with a pink border, which was really pretty and picked up the pink in the window treatments, but I was into trying patterned bedding this go around.
How amazing is clementine bedding from Crane & Canopy?
I paired the patterned bedding with some classic border euro shams in white and porcelain green.
Then I piled on some of my accent pillows. Even though the wall has stripes I decided to do a smaller width stripe for the pillows and then bring in the amazing floral chintz from the windows to the bed with a lumbar pillow.
I love nothing better than seeing the a freshly made bed on my way out the door! It honestly makes me feel like I already accomplished something that I could cross off a to-list before even leaving my bedroom.
Here are some tips for getting into the habit.
-Consistently! If you don’t ever make your bed then you need to get into the habit of it, which means doing it everyday. No days off on the weekend. I have been known to even make the bed around Jon, which he doesn’t want to get up yet. Hehe. I know what you are thinking. He is a lucky man.
-Toss any extras. I like using accent pillows so I don’t mind the extra second it takes to fluff them on the bed, but if you are not fan than simply do away with them to cut on time. I’m not a fan of top sheets so I literally always toss them when I buy a top sheet. I hate wasting, but I never use them. If you are like them then you will love that at Crane & Canopy you don’t need to buy a sheet set you can buy it all separately.
-Shake it out. Wrinkles and lumps in bedding drive me nuts. In order to get the best possible look and ohh and ahh make sure you give the duvet a bit of shake when you are placing to smooth it all out. I also due it to my sleeping shams so, that it’s nice and flat and no wrinkles!
I swear it literally takes less than 5 mins to do and it really helps start your day!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
