Camila, this is so something I would do!!! Congratulations on the score – which it totally is – and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you today. I have been swamped with moving but I've been thinking about you. Happy new year to you. I hope it brings you much happiness. xoxo

  2. vanessa says:

Those are really cute. New dishes always make cooking more fun! Happy New Year hope you get everything on your 2010 list!!

  3. Scientific Housewife says:

Very cute dishes and a fun story, I might want to stay away from TJ Maxx then 🙂

  4. ~Chandelier No. 4~ says:

Ha! Love it. The love for home vs handbags must be going around. I actually contemplated trading in my Christmas shopping $ for new sconces… then I kicked myself back to reality.

    Good luck today!!!

  5. Amanda says:

Whoa whoa whoa! First off those are adorable. Second, TJ Maxx is open today?!?! *squeal* Third, it is SO very true that once a home is purchased, it's more fun to spend money on making that home beautiful than to adorn yourself with new arm candy. I.e. a lovely handbag. 🙂

    Happy New Year!

  6. MyLittleHappyPlace says:

Now, YOU are what a call a woman on a mission!

  7. Claire Watkins, ASID allied says:

That's terrific, Camila! I'm glad you got your dishes. Kick off the new year with a big fat score. Best wishes for many more coming your way!

  8. Crystal @ Plush Palate says:

LOVE! I can totally relate, I used to spend more on fashion, now all my extra money goes to decor! Funny how that shift happens as you grow up 🙂

Thanks for all the inspiring in 2009! Happy New Year!

    xo,
    Crystal

  9. Chic Geek says:

I love this story, this is exactly how I am.. totally obsessed once I set my mind to smething. And congrats to finding them at TJ's. Such a great deal!

Now will you set the table to admire? That would be my next move, just set the table not eat off them.. ha!

Keep up the great work in 2010
    xoxo

  10. christina says:

That's exactly what I would do. I had a long-time love affair with handbags myself; but one day, dishes became the new handbag. I can't get enough. I'll swing by my TJ Maxx today and look for the missing polka dots. If we all work together, you may just get a matching set. 🙂

  11. La Maison Fou says:

OMG! I have so been there…we have 4 options here, to go from those 4 stores to find a collection of something. For me it was christmas ornaments one year!
Happy hunting, check with them often they get shipments daily!!! That's why I luv them, you never know what you will find!

  13. carlee says:

I saw those too a while back! Loved them too! AND I have dragged my BF to over 5 Marshalls in the past to get a matching set of drapes for an apt back in SF…so I 100% understand your need! Happy New Year!!!

  14. nkp says:

You are so funny. Oh how totally I can relate to this kind of madness. :0)

Keepin' my fingers crossed for you.

    Happy, happy new year Camila!

Enjoy the hunt! Your hubby is so sweet for accompanying you on your "quest" — I can't get Dave to tear away from the football today!

  16. Ms. Bright says:

That totally sounds like me! I DO love a cute dish and those are darling! Good luck on your quest!

  17. Miss Wendy says:

Those were worth the drive in the snow to TJMaxx. I have the same obsession and no storage for more dishes although you have me thinking I should run to my nearest TJMaxx and see what they have in store.
    Have a wonderful new year!

  18. Laura Casey Interiors says:

  23. High Maintenance Nurse says:

Great find!! I completely understand how the thoughts of buying something stick with you. I know it's a must if I still think about it the next day!

  24. DG says:

check your blog everyday…..I was out at home goods (marshalls) today and they had a number of polka-dot salad plates left at 5.50
Do you want me to help you complete your hunt? 🙂 I'd be happy to send them!
Hope you found them locally, but if not….

  25. Kristin McRea says:

wait, so you found the same dishes from Bendels at TJMAXX? Are they Kate Spade or are they look-a-likes? seriously, wow.

  26. Kristin McRea says:

ok sorry, just re-read the post. Bendel's awnings. I get it now.

  27. Christen says:

You always make me laugh! So glad that you went back for them. It's just me and my boyfriend and we have 5 SETS of dishes!!! Granted, one is for Christmas but still, I love each set. I hope you found the missing ones 🙂 Happy New Year!

  28. pve design says:

I wore bright pink tights on Christmas day to profess my love for the Kate Spade look and you are right, it goes far beyond just the bag…the china, eyeglasses, shoes, etc —
Yes, you should be a spokesperson for Kate!

  29. Bromeliad says:

Congrats on finding the full set – what a great feeling.

You will have to serve your honey some amazing dinner on those dishes for enduring repetitive TJMaxx disorder.

  30. micah @ the yellow front door says:

I would do the same thing – those plates are awesome!!

  31. Jenny says:

I went today and my TJ Maxx didn't have any. 🙁 Too bad.

  32. LindsB says:

Thats so cute that you went right back out to get the plates because you could not stop thinking about them…I do the same thing all the time. I tell myself to buy something on the spot that I can just take it back, but nope I always have to drive back out to the store for a second trip 🙂 enjoy your new plates, they are cutie!

  33. Kerry says:

Love them… well, love anything Kate – but those are gorgeous! 🙂 I'd probably do the same thing… not that I need ANY more dishes at all! Great find – good luck with the hunt for the additional salad plates!

  34. Melissa says:

This post cracks me up, I would not have taken on the bilzzard but close. I LOVE Kate Spade and you have a great find there. Hope you found the remainder.

  35. Jen Caputo says:

I found some at my Homegoods but I'm a green gal. The only thing I found was a green and white polkadot bowl which immedietly came home with me! I LOOOVE it! If I knew there were more out there I would never stop hunting Homegoods stores 🙂

ON THE BLOG

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.

Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.

On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]

I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
