When I think of bloggers one of the names that immediately pops in my head is Michele from My Notting Hill. We started blogging at around the same time and at that time there was a group of 10 or so newbie’s that were constantly on each other blogs commenting and thus many friendships were born. I love getting my daily design dose on My Notting Hill because Michele likes to spotlight happenings and designers in the DC area. I started my college career in D.C. ( I later transferred to a school in NY) and it will always have a soft spot in my heart. It’s fun to see what new shops are popping up and how Michelle enjoys her days there.
So, sit back and enjoy a day in her life!
6:30 am – wake up, 7:00 am – finally get out of bed, say hi to my husband and kids and get ready for work. Grab a liquid breakfast-to-go. My husband made me a Kefir yogurt shake w/frozen berries. Love this & him for making it for me!
7:50 am: Out the door. Since this is In Her Shoes, I thought I would highlight my super comfortable and very authentic espadrilles from EM & M. Today I have a VTC meeting with a project team in Atlanta so I can dress a bit more casually.
I actually love my 9 mile commute from N. Arlington into DC via the Roosevelt Bridge over the Potomac. Off to the right is the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. I never get tired of this view.
8:30 am: THE IRONY – I’m a self-employed management consultant and the client I’m working for today is housed in the SAME building as The Washington Design Center.
TURN LEFT = Paying Work. In the morning I provide consultation on a 360 Degree Leadership Assessment program, conduct a dry-run of a webinar I’ll be hosting this Friday and have a VTC meeting with an Atlanta project team to help them check-in on their teamwork and progress.
12:00 pm: Now I can TURN RIGHT – It’s a great perk that I can head over to the Design Center whenever I’m working with this client. Design is my hobby and anytime I can squeeze it into my day I try.
Loving this display. This summer we’re renovating out basement and I’m going with a red and blue chinoiserie look. My favorite is the pattern on the fabric that’s suspended. DIY Thought – could this be created with fabric paint on a painter’s drop cloth??
The Design Center’s Dream Home is open through Dec. 9. Here’s a pic of Susan Nelson’s pretty and colorful living room.
1:00 pm – DC is often a city of surprises. On the way to grab lunch, I noticed this sailboat displayed in the window of an austere stone federal building. Sweet and lovely.
2:00 pm: Pit-stop at Random Harvest in Arlington on the way home. I snapped this picture before the lamp shades were put back on. The three map prints of NY are colorful and fun.
A mod indoor/outdoor seat that’s made of a lightweight ceramic.
3:30 pm: Back home to do paper-work, meet my daughter at the bus stop and enjoy dinner with my family.
7:15 pm: As soon as the contractors leave, I head to the house next door for my new nightly ritual of checking out the progress. It was bought by a house flipper who is adding a second story, etc. Hmmm, I don’t hate it so that’s promising…
8:00 pm – Take a 1 hour walk around the neighborhood, listen to the last part of the Red Sox game with Dan (go Sox!)
9:30 pm: My favorite time to take a swim. We put the pool in five years ago and I’m so glad we did. I know pools aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but I love mine.
10:15 pm: Day’s over. Camila thanks for including me in this feature!

Whew! Like always I’m exhausted by seeing what Michele accomplishes in one day.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend. I know I’m excited to celebrated Father’s day. My dad had a rough couple of months health wise and I’m so happy that he is back on track. Can’t wait to celebrate with him!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Great post, I love the “in her shoes” series! Keep ’em coming.

The life of fabulous M is a good one. I adore her blog and always great fun to read. I think she too was one of the first blogs that I followed. To me a swimming pool is one of the greatest joys of life.
Have a great weekend ahead!
