My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Ah, I’m right there with ya with a love of peonies! Luckily our house came with some already planted as my bulbs usually end up on our garage shelf as well!
They are my favorite too. There is nothing better than the smell of a peony!
I love peonies too! I planted a bush in my backyard two years ago and have yet to get one bud from it. Maybe one day!
Had them in my garden for years and be warned they may not bloom for two or more years before they r settled in. Make sure you bury them deeply and you will need to invest in staking them when they get prolific. Easy to transplant, but they love full sun all day, I tried half /filtered sun by evergreen hedge, didnt bloom as heartily. Also ants love them so be careful when bringing indoors, a good shake or rinse will make u happier! Also u can mix it up with early, mid late blooming varieties to extend the bloom season, our town had a plant exchange and u can really score other varieties trading with your fellow gardeners. My neighbor had a tree peony, pricey initially but gorgeous blooms as well. Good luck, my daughter is getting married in June and she is thrilled it is peony season!!!
I gotta hand it to you, you have chutzpah! I have many, many peony bushes. I might scream your name too if I found you snipping my beloved peonies. However, if you knocked on my door and asked, I’d be more than happy to give a fellow peony lover an armful. And if it is later in June you’d leave with some gorgeous roses as well!
Tips: Don’t plant too deep. They need their own space, like a good 3 square feet per bush. Plenty of sunshine for best blooms. Don’t fret over the ants on the flower buds, they are beneficial in helping the bud open. Spring is a great time to plant peonies. Also early Fall. Plant both early blooming and late blooming varieties that way you’ll have peonies till the end of June. Most gardeners are generous souls. If you ask, they’ll share.
The peonies scream my name not the neighbors. Either way I totally felt horrible, but couldn’t help myself. They just have so many bushes full of them I figured they wouldn’t mind a snip or two.
so sorry! I misread. But if you lived nearby I’d still give you loads of peonies! And roses.
I share your deep deep love for Peonies! My grandmother loved them and I do as well. They hold a special place in my heart. I may or may not have planned my wedding for the end of May, so I could have Peonies in my bouquet! Just kidding, I didn’t really base my wedding date on Peonies, but felt really lucky that I got to have them.
