While it’s getting chiller now this is the time when I actually get a lot of requests from clients on helping design their beach houses! I love working on beach houses. One of my happy places is by the ocean so, it’s nice to pretend for a little bit and design a second home with a water front view!
Normally all of the beach house projects gets done during the Fall/Winter while the homeowners are away. It’s a little strange to be sourcing beach related artwork while there is a chill in the air, but it’s amazing to see everything come together and ready for the family to enjoy once summer hits.
Here is a style plan I started work on for a colorful entryway last week:
No.1 Is this not the most perfect piece of artwork for a beach house? I just love the whimsy of it. It’s fun and happy and has a nod to the summer without being cheesy. Best part is that it’s from Minted and can be blown up to 44″ x 60″ if I wanted!
No.2 I wanted something to balance the artwork and I really like the idea of symmetry. Robert Abbey is always one of my favorite when it comes to colorful lighting. I’m really enjoying this new design. It’s available in a rainbow of colors!
No.3 An entertainment console always a lot of storage in it and can be used anywhere not just under a TV! I love this peacock blue console. It’s 60″ and can easily hold baskets that you can fill with sunscreen, googles, flipflops and you can even roll up some colorful beach towels in it.
No.4 Tassels on pillows make me so happy! This striped beauty is only $45!
No.5 My main inspiration point was this vintage kilim runner. Sadly since it is vintage it’s already gone, but I do love a bunch of the options in this shop.
No.6 A bamboo or rattan chair is normally really pricey. I wanted that vibe in this space and was very happy when I found this chair. Love that the lines of it, love that it has an Asian inspired nod to it and I love that there is a cushion on it. It can easily be recovered in Sunbrella fabric! Now I’m just trying to decide if I want to get a pair of them to continue the symmetry or the flank the console with one chair and a ceramic garden stool.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
