Back when I first started blogging and designing no one was talking about gold or brass accents. It was very out of style and everyone was all about silver! Now a days if you look at any recently remodeled kitchen or bathroom it’s all about the brass and gold tones. While I love that look I have found myself getting drawn to silver tones yet again. There is just something fresh about them and if you do it right you can get a very classic look with a modern twist! Here is a plan that recently went out to a client with a powder blue, silver and black color story.
My jumping off point for the design was this wallpaper by Farrow & Ball called Closet Stripe. I think it would look lovely hung with the stripes going horizontally. The bathroom already has white subway tile going up to the chair rail so, the top half will be covered in the paper.
Bathroom lighting often gets forgotten and you end up with sort of builder’s grade boob light. Not in this design. It’s time to swap out that lighting and go with a more design friendly semi-flush mount like this scalloped shade fixture from Shades of Light.
I love taking out medicine cabinets and going with a more decorative style mirror in it’s place. I love the shape of this mirror and I must be honest I have used it a number of times with clients. I love the Hollywood regency vibe that it has to it. I want to add more lighting to the bathroom and a touch of metal. I really enjoyed the powder blue color of the stripe and adding brass to it made it seem a little too nautical for my liking and that wasn’t the look I was going for. So, I went with a nickel/silver instead and found these silver sconces at a steal! I loved the addition of the black!
The black was just what the powder blue needed. Is this tile not perfection for the floor? I’m obsessed. I don’t love using massive bath mats, but I know you need something so, I found this chic polka dot mat that works perfectly.
For the sink vanity I would swap out their dated vanity for this ready made vanity that fits the space without needed something custom. Plus it has nice detailing on it, which it makes look more custom. I would add a marble top to it and then add this faucet set that is wall mount for an updated look.
A crisp white shower curtain is just what the decorator ordered. Oh course I love a little dose of whimsy and the tassel border add just that. No need to make everything so serious. Design is about having fun!
Can’t wait to see it all come to life!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
