Connecticut is just a short hour or so drive away and we love day tripping there when we have a free day! There are just so many adorable towns with cute shops, restaurants, stunning houses and beautiful scenery. It’s always a win for us. I get to check out the shopping, we all get to eat a yummy meal and then the boys always get a stop at the water to check out the beach and do some fishing. Win, win. I would honestly move there in a heart beat if I could get my entire family to follow suit! For the longest time I have wanted to check out Kirby & Company in person, but it seemed like it was made just for me! Shop owner has always been one of the goals for my business and Kirby & Company looks exactly what I would do. A home store full of chic home decor accessories, gift items, monogramming area, lots of fashion accessories and a bakery/cafe area that serves the best chocolate chip cookies! Add a fresh flower bar and it would be exactly what I would do with a store!
Months ago I ventured out to Darien, Connecticut to check out Kirby & Company and was so said to see that they had taken the day off as an employee appreciation day. Cue to me plastering my face on the windows to check out what I could!
A couple of weeks ago I ventured to Darien, CT again and I was actually able to go in this time! Shop owner, Elaine Kirby McCleary has an amazing eye which she perfected while at Juliska(another stunning shop in CT that focuses mainly on glassware and serving pieces). She was there for 12 years and then ventured out on her to create a shop that was filled with colorful happy objects that bought her joy and a good dose of sugar for good measure! She has a sweet tooth like me and the shop features a bakery area with her famous chocolate chip cookies baked from scratch from an old family recipe!
Right when you walk in there is a fun set up of stationary for all of your letter writing needs! Lots of elephants, greek keys and ginger jars!
Beautiful displays of pillows are sprinkled all throughout the shop. I loved this set up of blue and green. Such a pretty color combo and a little boho chic accessory always looks pretty thrown into a sofa pillow display.
Hello bamboo everything! That little orange bamboo side table was screaming my name!
Bar accessories were all over the store. Lots of ice buckets and glassware. Those polka dot glasses have been on my mind since I left the shop. Love the whimsy of a polka dot!
Is this not the perfect shop for gifts! Especially girlfriend and hostess gifts. It’s so easy to go in and fall in love with everything.
I remember seeing these brass elephant wine bottle openers at the gift fair and here there are!
I’m not from the South, but I always tell people that I think I am on the inside, because I love all things Southern like monograms! I would seriously monogram everything if you let me. If you are at Kirby & Company you actually do just that! They have robes, towels, handbags, etc all ready to be monogrammed!
Who doesn’t want to eat cookies while they shop! I do! This was our last stop before heading back home so, I picked up a latte to keep me awake and cookies for all. The boys enjoyed sitting at the counter and trying out their famous chocolate chip cookies. We loved them! So much so, that the boys wouldn’t share with us!
I think they had every candle scent imaginable. So many options all throughout the displays.
Palm leaf will always get my attention.
Can you spy the furry customer that Asher immediately high tailed it for!
Jon was gifted a corkcicle during the holidays and he is a man obsessed. He loves them. They really do keep everything cold for hours upon hours. He loves it when his ice cubes don’t melt.
If you couldn’t tell Elaine loves elephants just as much as me. We follow each other on instagram and we are currently double tabbing on our each others photos when they feature an elephant or do. Can you find the vintage elephant detailing below?
It really is a lovely shop and if you are in the CT area or nearby then you must have a trip over to check it out in person. If you aren’t able to go in person make sure to follow them on instagram and shop their store online.
Another other gems I should check out in CT. The whole area where Kirby & Co is adorable so it’s totally worth a day trip to pop in and out of shops and get a bite to eat.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
