I’ve been enjoying playing around in baby land these last couple of weeks. Of course my mind immediately wanders to design and the other day I fell in love with furniture company,Nursery Works. Specially I fell in love with their uptown collection that is designed by House of Honey.
Now they are a bit (ok a ton) out of my price range, but I’ve already been trying to figure out ways I can do a DIY version.
Now when doing a look for less you need to keep in mind that’s okay to not get every detail exactly the same. You need to be open to some tweaks.
My crib version is a bit curvier and doesn’t have two drawers underneath, but for $379instead of $1,500 I think you can make it work. Add some campaign style pullsand paint on some trim in an accent color on the drawer and sides and we are in business.
I was able to find a file cabinet that fit the bill to mimic the look of the Uptown changing table. It is only $359 and comes in white (image was only available in espresso). The drawer fronts already have detailing that looks like the trim pieces in the original so I would just paint them out in an accent color and switch out the pulls with the campaign style ones. With the originals coming in at $2,700 I think I would work a little DIY magic.

Your amazing…I am so looking forward to seeing this nursery!
You should look at the Walmart Baby Mod crib. It looks a little closer to the $1,500 one and you could paint the drawer on the bottom. We have this crib, and it has excellent ratings from buyers and looks great!

Hi Andi,
I did look at that one but the sides are exposed and in my inspiration they are solid. Hmm I guess I could have wood cut to size and cover the bars on the outside to get the same look. We shall see. Thanks for the heads up.

Congrats on the baby! I’m so happy for you! I have a little boy and we got his crib on clearance at Target for $69. It looks very similar to the one in the picture…a boxy crib that you could totally DIY to make it look like that. It’s made by Dwell Studio! Maybe cheaper than what you would really want, but it’s almost identical in form.
This line looks great, thanks for the tipoff
Aloha,
saw this acrylic crib and thought you might like it

Congrats on your news! We were married for 10 years before we finally became pregnant (tried for 7 years) and he was born a month before our 11 year anniversary. He’s turning 4 next month! Just as you, we stopped thinking about it and “trying” and it just happened! Best of luck!
Nursery furniture is so expensive – I’m surprised more companies don’t try to knock off the designer styles (would love to see a cheaper version of the Nurseryworks acrylic crib!). Great DIY ideas, please keep them coming!
My friend just introduced me to this company Young America: http://www.youngamerica.com/products/343681. They do a wide variety of styles in every color conceivable – kind of a fun idea to make the crib the focal point of the room. I’m leaning toward the Giggle Harper crib because I saw it in a display early on and it got stuck in my head: http://www.giggle.com/eng/product/harper_crib/suncr
Ahh! Love the look and your selections for less are wonderful! You truly are the DIY queen. I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Congrats on your baby bump! xx
oh you clever girl. love the inspiration look but I know yours will be every bit as spectacular. Congrats on you new life. ;0 It only gets sweeter.
Hugs,
Pam
