When I painted the living room walls pale pink my neutral roman shades started to look a bit blah. I still adored them, but I knew I could do better.
Before:
{The original roman shades worked nicely, but I knew I could do better and I couldn’t get those yellow drapes out of my mind.}
After:
Much better, right? I’m in love. They make so happy! They were just what the room needed.
*These pinch pleat curtains were also custom made by my workroom. Yesterday I got many emails/comments about a link where you could purchase the slipcover on my wing chair. My wing chair slipcover, along with the majority of the toss pillows and window treatments in my house have all been made by my workroom. Workrooms are used by interior designers/decorators for all of their sewing needs. At times workrooms also handle making custom headboards and re-upholstery. Other times they just specialize in window treatments, slipcovers, bedding, pillows. They are a great resource to have as a designer and I love getting to see everything I dreamed up come to life.
A quick search in the yellow pages or craigslist and you should be able to find a workroom in your area. I typically test them out by getting a pillow or two made to check on the quality before using them with clients items.
If you are ever interested in something custom I can always be reached for fabric suggestions, ordering to the trade fabric and production of window treatments and toss pillows. Email me at camila@effortless-style.com if you need a custom quote.
Thanks Will. Purchased that chair years ago when I wasn’t in design and was on a huge over stuffed pottery barn kick and after a year or two I was over it, but it was pricey so I decided to get a new slipcover made to make it more “me”. I love it and due to it’s over stuffed nature it’s actually one of the best seats in the house. People fight over it. Especially my pup Moo who thinks it belongs only to him.
I had totally pinned that pic too!!! Your drapes are stunning! that is what I love most about your design and home, you take chances and they have such a wow factor!!!
It’s a find from Pier 1. I was able to snag the store display for only $99 and then just painted it white. It’s from a couple of years ago and I haven’t seen anything like it there in since.
I LOVE your amazing room and the colors are sooo striking! I LOVE lots of color. My daughter lives in NYC and her apt. is very small and dark. Her colors are beautiful… magenta, beige and brown w/ white walls, but dark… hmmmm you’ve inspired me 🙂 I think we need a real pop of color! 🙂
I did go a bit color happy in the living room, but I’m loving it. My mom now feels like her house is too blah and wants color overload as well. Happy to be spreading the color love.
Obsessed with fabric as well. Found pillows made with it on etsy, but then couldn’t find the mill that actually made it to purchase it by the yard. After some searching I found it and I’m so happy.
I love the yellow curtains.I am hunting for good yellow fabrics for window treatment but haven’t found the right yellow shadow. What fabric did you use?
World Market did have yellow drapery panels like this in a beautiful yellow in what looked like a linen weave. They were very inexpensive ($15 a panel?)
The yellow curtains really make the room, and add some sunshine. I just saw that exact color of yellow on some turning leaves on the way home, and was going to incorporate it into a color study tonight. Great yellow!
Love Love Love the drapes. It is exactly what the room needed. It was good before but now it really pops. I just hung my new white drapes…maybe I should die them. xo
you totally rocked this room (i swear i’m not a valley girl or ‘tween). when i first saw where you were going with it i did hold my breath (cuz that helps) but–WOW WOW WOW–truly fabulous!
I love how the spots on the pillow, the background of the painting in the back corner nod to the beautiful yellow in the curtains. Perfect tie-in! Love it.
Love the yellow curtains!!! I have super bright yellow curtains in our dressing room and they make me happy every time I walk in there. The walls are the same color as your walls too I think? (magnolia grandiflora)
I love the risks you take with color and pattern. They work so beautifully to create such happy spaces. Your yellow drapes and pink walls are wonderful, as is your choice of drapery hardware. Kudos to a job well done!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]

Apologies if you have mentioned it previously, but would you mind sharing your paint color? Desperately seeking a soft shade of pink!
Love your curtains! I also really like the floral pillow in your before picture. Can you share the source?
